We did an excellent job with our transition offense for about 30 minutes. Then, by design, Pearl slows the tempo to a snail's pace, and it simply opened the door for the come back. If we keep the foot on the gas, we win that game by 25+. It's clear that this team needs to push the ball when the opportunity is there. Plan for tomorrow night: Bruce, get out of the way with the constant play-calls and draining the shot clock and use your athletes to your advantage. If that happens, we have a great shot at the W.

When Arky started getting hot making baskets is when the pace got slowed up. When we are rebounding off misses is when we can start running.

Pearl needs to re-think a lot of his game management. UT is 7-10 under Pearl post-Pittsburg.

Just sayin...

don't have a problem with this at all. the rotation is determined well in advance, and i'm sure cbp has final say on who will be going in and at what moments. ctj has his hands on the foul situations so it makes it more efficient for him to get guys in and out so cbp can make the calls on the floor.

Our guards don't make any calls themselves. Every offensive set comes from cbp.

That's not really true. We were inbounding the ball fast and getting the ball up the floor even off makes. Pearl then inextricably began walking the ball up the floor and grinding it out. After 32 games, it's pretty clear that that's not a strength of ours.

Agree. We gotta play wide open. Coach Dixon from Pitt, "Tennessee is the most athletic team we'll play all year". Bruce has to quit handicapping us.

I just disagree with that philosophy. Having predetermined substitutions has you subbing out players that are hot. Multiple times this year, we've taken players out that looked to be getting on a roll offensively. I'd like to see the flexibility in the subs to leave players that are hot in the game.

I agree that it seems scripted in the first half, but I've noticed in the second half they stick with the hot hand. For instance, Bone played done the stretch tonight over Tatum and Pearl was subbing in and out with Williams instead of Fields and Hall.

When we push the ball after a miss, lanes open up. They aren't as organized. After a make, all they have to do, is stop us with our first wave of attack. Melvin doesn't get the due credit for pushing it hard after the made baskets.

I think pearl is a great motivator and leader in terms of getting the team ready for a big game, but subpar in terms of in-game coaching.

I'm in the camp of not giving a rats ass if he stays or goes, but he does seem a but of a tool.

I agree with all of this. That's why I think we should be pushing the ball at every opportunity instead of intentionally slowing the pace like we did the last 6 or 8 minutes.

Yeah, I don't understand this philosophy of score quick and if you don't pull it out and dribble the shot clock down to 7 and throw up a prayer. I would understand this philosophy if we were playing superior talent and not very deep, but we are the superior talent and we are deep. We should not be playing so many close games. I think many of these close games would be much more comfortable wins if we worked for a shot the whole offensive possession instead of dribbling the ball at half court for 30 seconds before looking for a shot.

Was going to post something like this.

I think with Golden in our goal should be to push the ball.

You can play good defense and score in transition.

I agree. It's inexplicable that he would inextricably walk the ball up the floor.

when we walk the ball up the floor we will run the clock under 10 then either hopson, harris, or goins will try to go 1 on 1 to the hole. The other teams see that and pack it in the paint forcing a unbalanced or 15 ft jump shot. Coach Pearl im not a coach and I figured that out.:banghead2:

He reminds me of the way Joe Gibbs coached the Redskins his second time around. They would get a 3-7 point lead, and then he would run and run and run-holding on for dear life while the other team inevitably caught up-and then he would act all surprised and pray about it. Drove me nuts then, and it drives me nuts now.
