No way to call either a miss given the coaches weren't here to coach their system. I still think UT Basketball has plenty of talent, just need to be coached up.
We have a 2 guard playing the point, a true freshman backing him up, a mediocre power forward playing center, and our senior leadership consists of Cameron Tatum and Renaldo Woolridge. Yeah, this team is loaded.
No, that was just the team that made the deepest run. Didn't hurt that he got lucky enough to play a 14 seed in the 2nd round instead of a 3 seed.
That was his team most build for tournament play. And, shocking as it may be, that was his only team after year one that had a point guard on it. Funny how those two things go together.
After Lofton and JuJuan graduated, Pearl's teams had a massive leadership void and completely underachieved, with the exception of a couple months in 2010 where Wayne Chism and Bobby Maze decided to take charge after the arrests. That run was great, but the 2.5 years surrounding it were frustrating as hell.
I agree on the point guard dilemma. Sadly it was point
guard recruiting that caused our on dilemma. You have to remember that top ranked players are not literally beating down the door to attend Tennessee. Maybe Pearl should have given Craft and Selby $25,000 under the table like Matta and Self probably did instead of a hamburger.
Obviously we can't recruit like Duke or UNC, but we did recruit some very good players (Chism, Hopson, Harris), and none of them were point guards. I think Bruce had a personal failing in overestimating his ability to get by without a true point. Hell, didn't he recruit Trae Golden as a 2 who could be turned into a point?
Pearl knew we needed a good point guard. Why do you think he had them to his house. (although against NCAA
rules) He was trying to get Jones here for this year. So
the personal failing part of you're post is irrevelevant.
He was hosting Selby and Craft because they were 5* can't miss prospects, regardless of position. Doesn't mean Pearl didn't have a tendency to try to turn 2-guards into point guards.
And I don't think you understand the meaning of "irrelevant." That or "irrevelevant" is a new word the meaning of which I don't understand.

That's not the point. Look at it this way. Pearl was able to get great productivity from the players he inherited. What productivity was he able to get from the players Martin inherited? I'm talking about the specific group of guys on this team that were on the team last year.trying to prop up that first pearl team as some group that everyone knew was a going to be a 2 seed, no, even make the tourney, is the height of pure comedy. if you think jajuan smith was viewed as anything more than trecs slaw before pearl's first season you are either delusional or ignorant.
