"Jordan McRae, Kenny Hall, Renaldo Woolridge, and Jeronne Maymon took our starters to jail in practice today, bad sign for Thursday, good sign for the future."

-Pearl believes that this team needs a few more wins to be a lock for the NCAA Tourney. He did not sound positive when discussing this team.

"I've done a poor job of recruiting and identifying needs, in the future we're going to make a concentrated effort to go after guys who can press, because that's who I am, a coach who presses."

-In addition to Kevin Ware and Chris Jones, who Pearl believes are "excellent point guards", we're going to sign a "serviceable big man" and another "impact player" in the spring.

-Pearl believes the 2012 class will be one of the best yet and Tennessee is in "great shape" with some kids they really want.

2012 will be our best class ever.

I know that most here seem to think that the style of play last year is best suited for championships, but Pearl has shown again and again that, for all of his strengths, he is a below-average offensive coach. I think creating turnovers is the best thing the Vols can do in order to score points. A pressing defense is what you need when you have a stagnant half court offense. In my mind, this is good news.

Keep in mind, a pressing, exciting style of play is what made TBA so loud a few years back. It may help us regain our home court advantage.

I wonder if they knew they were moving away from the press, or if they miss-recruited. Pearl isn't great at half-court because we've rarely needed it. Hard to worry much about it when we score 80+ a game on transition and 3's.

I think he has tried to mask the problem, but now it's fairly apparent our squad is pretty lost. They have moments where they're top 10, but our disappearing act on offense is our undoing.

OR

This is a case of coaching up where he calls the players out and they respond because they want to prove him wrong.

That's really not something I wanted to hear.

it won't be. we are in deep trouble. ware and jones(if he even makes it in ) will be our only 2 recruits. pearl won't even be here. hamilton either. the AA is going to bomb this program. a worthwhile coach won't touch this program, and star players will laugh at an offer from u t. sorry folks, but 3 or 4 months from now, we will be the new indiana of college basketball. ibet anything hatvol would say close to the same thing.

How was Pearl doing? Hopefully one of the callers thought to ask.

It looks like a two year "show-cause" penalty - any ideas on a new coach?

The only reason it worked early in his tenure was because he walked into a roster that already had Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith on it. In six years, he hasn't recruited a single shooter even remotely of that caliber. Not that that has kept us from using it as a staple of the offense, of course.

"I've done a poor job of recruiting and identifying needs, in the future we're going to make a concentrated effort to go after guys who can press, because that's who I am, a coach who presses."

I can see why he'd say that, since this year has been an epic disaster.

But...I wish he'd go the other way with it. He has a good basketball mind, he just has no experience with the half-court game. I wish he would focus this offseason on learning to win at half-court basketball.

It is possible, you know...
