The only reason it worked early in his tenure was because he walked into a roster that already had Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith on it. In six years, he hasn't recruited a single shooter even remotely of that caliber. Not that that has kept us from using it as a staple of the offense, of course.

hope your right, neighbor down the road from me, but the AA isn't going to slap us on the wrist, their going to get an arm bar on us. if pearl gets a one year suspension, he's gone.
I think Hamilton has already said that if he just gets a year, that he is going to stick behind him. As for the three month comment earlier. I wish all of this would be over by then, but it won't be.
2012 best class? doubtful. Who are the big names interested?
I still don't understand why Pearl would use the press as a primary weapon for his defense. Throwing it at teams every now and then works but we've been down that road too many times. A decent backcourt creates a headache everytime against the press.
it won't be. we are in deep trouble. ware and jones(if he even makes it in ) will be our only 2 recruits. pearl won't even be here. hamilton either. the AA is going to bomb this program. a worthwhile coach won't touch this program, and star players will laugh at an offer from u t. sorry folks, but 3 or 4 months from now, we will be the new indiana of college basketball. ibet anything hatvol would say close to the same thing.
its not just around here, and a good backcourt will usually break a press. That is one of the reasons teams back off of the press as the tourney progresses

I know that most here seem to think that the style of play last year is best suited for championships, but Pearl has shown again and again that, for all of his strengths, he is a below-average offensive coach. I think creating turnovers is the best thing the Vols can do in order to score points. A pressing defense is what you need when you have a stagnant half court offense. In my mind, this is good news.
Keep in mind, a pressing, exciting style of play is what made TBA so loud a few years back. It may help us regain our home court advantage.

-In addition to Kevin Ware and Chris Jones, who Pearl believes are "excellent point guards", we're going to sign a "serviceable big man" and another "impact player" in the spring.
-Pearl believes the 2012 class will be one of the best yet and Tennessee is in "great shape" with some kids they really want.
On the other hand a pressing defense is easily scored on and that is what is relied on to score then we'll be even more hapless in tough games against good teams where the play becomes half court sets. Better to recruit players and learn how to coach them up to effective half court play.
Pressing is only useful as a change of pace tactic. It's useless as your primary tool.
"Jordan McRae, Kenny Hall, Renaldo Woolridge, and Jeronne Maymon took our starters to jail in practice today, bad sign for Thursday, good sign for the future."
-Pearl believes that this team needs a few more wins to be a lock for the NCAA Tourney. He did not sound positive when discussing this team.
"I've done a poor job of recruiting and identifying needs, in the future we're going to make a concentrated effort to go after guys who can press, because that's who I am, a coach who presses."
