Pearl was on Dan Patrick this morning

I wouldn't mind seeing Pearl end up as Athletic Director when his tenure as basketball coach is finished here.

I hope Pearl's still concentarting on coaching in 2-3 years when Hambone's let go after the debacle he's created with the football program

I'd like to see your top 5.

My top 5:

1a) Roy Williams
1b) Coach K
3) Tom Izzo
4) Jim Calhoun
5) Bill Self

You really think Bruce Pearl deserves to be on that list?

I am a huge BP fan.

I think he will win a national title in the next 10 years and get to one other Final Four. I also do not think he is a top 5 coach. He is a top 10 coach IMO, towards the bottom of that group. I cannot see a way to argue him higher based on accomplishments so far.

Yeah, he certainly doesn't ahve that kind of success yet. But I'm not JUST comparing past successes/reputation. It's more of a "if they all started at equal schools and none of them had made a name for themselves yet" thing:

1. Izzo
2. Coach K
3. Self
4. Pearl
5. Williams (maryland)

This makes about as much sense as a football bat.

Winning usually means you will turn a profit.

Yes, winning does usually mean you will turn a profit, but turning a profit really helps a program to be a consistent winner. An exception would be in the so called "minor" sports where a profit is not possible, but you have the cash cows of football and basketball supporting the overall athletic dept. effort.

Interesting that Dan Patrick asked about openings at Oregon and St. John's, but he didn't think to ask about Pearl's alma mater having a recent vacancy?

If Bruce Pearl really wanted to hammer home the point that he's really happy in Tennessee and he has no plans to coach anywhere else, you'd think he'd mention something about turning down an offer to return to Boston College.

IIRC, those were the only two he was specifically asked about.

If you had read earlier threads on this board, you would have seen the list of schools which would have been able to hire Pearl--be it immediately or after a Tennessee counteroffer. Fredo was nowhere to be found in that list of schools!!!

Why do you think Dan Patrick would waste his time asking about Boston College? Part of being a journalist is that, you know, you do your homework. You don't just spew out half-baked opinions and questions.

Do you see anyone asking Mike Brey about the Boston College job? Obviously not. Why? Because coaches of Brey's pedigree would respond like this :post-4-1090547912: .

Now, I'm not saying that Bruce Pearl is anywhere close to a Mike Brey, but even Pearl would be embarrassing himself by stooping to address such "speculation" as this.

I know. Don't you think it's odd that he mentioned St. John's as an opening, but not Pearl's alma mater? I'd like to think that Dan Patrick is a good journalist who knows his stuff. I think it's a bit odd that Patrick wouldn't ask if Pearl's own alma mater was one of the schools that has recently contacted him.
