Pelosi: Republicans `like' Iraq War

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out at Republicans on Thursday, saying they want the Iraq war to drag on and are ignoring the public's priorities.
"They like this war. They want this war to continue," Pelosi, D- Calif., told reporters. She expressed frustration over Republicans' ability to force majority Democrats to yield ground on taxes, spending, energy, war spending and other matters.

Thoughts?

She would be doing herself better service to just keep her mouth shut. No one is listening Nancy. No one cares.

She did back off later but still stupid:

Asked to clarify her remarks, Pelosi backed off a bit.
"I shouldn't say they like the war," she said. "They support the war, the course of action that the president is on."

The democrats are the ones in love with the war. the worst thing that could happen to hillary et all is a withdrawl from Iraq (or some sort of resulution to the war) before the election.

She would have to actually campaign then instead of pointing out flaws and running her mouth about the current administration. She would be masacred in every debate if she couldnt base her statements around Bush bashing.

One Clinton was enough.

There is a perception out there that the Republicans are married to the war because any sense of failure in it would validate the criticism of the last 4 years. Also, it sure does seem that SOME politicians actually enjoy the prospect of war because it gives them a chance to remind everyone of how patriotic they are.

I think she actually had a valid point but one that shouldn't be said in all honesty

Face it, both parties have an interest in this war.

In my opinion, Republicans want this war to continue and they DO NOT want a "retreat" scenario because they know that they would be the fall men if that occured. Not saying that makes them any less American or whatever but they would be looked upon as the group that "failed" if the Iraq war was stopped tommorrow.....of course it is by NO MEANS "their fault"....we all know how politics work and the Republicans are looked upon by the common joe as the party that brought us to war.

On the flip side, Democrats know that a bad war means better chances for them to win seats/votes thus they will do whatever they can to just highlight the pure negatives throughout the war because they KNOW that a retreat from Iraq is a Democrat success with a high majority of the country (that is just my opinion and not supported by facts) would not mind seeing a retreat if proper measures were put in place in Iraq as we left.

So, just as Republicans "like" the war, Democrats "dislike" the war with the same idiotic, political thought behind it

Neither is better than the other....

actually their iraq operations are losing money.

Sure, they have had a drop in profits recently. But just look where they came from since the war's beginning:

The way the scale is manipulated on those graphs to generate the same looking trend is a little dishonest.

So do we think a company is going to do that kind of work and look to lose money?

they have a contract. That graph shows their revenue coming soley from iraq, which is ridiculous, in reality it's a miniscule portion of their business. the reason why their earnings have gone through the roof is that they are THE premier oil service company in the world and the oil price is $90 a barrell. Which by the way is why they got the iraq job. There are maybe 2 other companies in the world that could do that type of work they do in iraq. The part of the company that does the iraq work was actually spun off last year. if it was vastly profitable don't you think they would keep it around rather than spin it off into a seperate company? every oil service company's stock price is up 3 times what it was 3 years ago. The only reason why HAL has UNDERPERFORMED the rest of the oil service market is because of the losses in Iraq. The whole argument is amazingly idiotic. I guess not many democrats bother reading 10-Ks. Delusional Bush hate at it's finest.
