Penny Hardaway admits he regrets the Rick Barnes incident

It's almost impossible to reach the "high road" when you bury yourself in your own sewer's muck.
And the stench won't wash away. He picked up the shovel voluntarily so I have to think there's little he can do or say to change things. UT has never needed Memphis State. Wouldn't play 'em again as long as he's their coach.

As well stated…Simply not one positive benefit for UT playing Memphis in any sport…EVER. I have numerous friends who played and coached at Memphis. Shoot…my own daughter was on Joy Lee McNelis staff for 4 years and Joy and I shared a good cry when she left for home and USM BUT that doesn’t change the simple truth…VOLS have no itch Memphis can scratch in any sport🤷‍♂️.

I live in Memphis and hope the best for the school, because the school plays an important economic role in Memphis. That said, Penny needs to stop talking and focus on building more stability in his program. As it stands now, it's a disaster. Too much roster turnover, guys that don't give a damn about their educations and just a lot of poor behavior. It makes the whole city look bad when he acts like a clown, and trust me, we don't need any help looking bad. The city is a crisis.

Just when you thought the Fords were a bad look for the city, here comes Penny.

I'm guessing he thought he could damage UT in some way or maybe he didn't care. It appears the joke was on him.

Penny can apologize, but that doesn’t free him from the consequences of his actions. I wouldn’t mind the series resuming but not while Penny is their coach.

I want us to play against Penny so we can get payback for the last game, which was a loss at home for us. That was like 4 years ago; I don't especially care about any petty quarrel that happened at this point. Sack up, and let's play bball, boys.

Exactly correct. NEVER play that bunch again in any sport ever. We have nothing to gain from it. If you aren’t UT fan that has to live in Shelby County, you would never understand. It just isn’t worth it. Disappointed the ladies scheduled a basketball game with them.

It will be interesting to see how much longer Lil Penny coaches at Memphis.
Unless there’s moral turpitude of a huge nature he’ll coach there as long as he want’s because UM could NEVER absorb the violent reactions it would cause socially. A close friend whom I’ve known since birth was held over on Penney’s staff from Tubby Smith. Last year he’d had enough and moved over into alumina type stuff. It was a constant soap opera he had all he could take.

Industrial abrasives or secret society originating in current day Germany?

It didn’t seem like much of an apology to me. I’m thinking Penny thinks he needs Tennessee on his schedule and now he regrets his actions. I really liked the rivalry but as long as he’s there, he can go pound sand! GoVols!

We have all the ingredients for a nice gritty rivalry, and most here want nothing to do with it. Makes no sense to me.

Most want nothing to do with it because they realize there is nothing to gain from doing it. Name one thing that we get out of it that we can’t get somewhere else. As far as I can tell, all we have ever gotten in return is the vitriol of a jealous fan base and a loudmouth coach who thinks he’s all that. The only thing it does is elevate their program. No thanks.

There’s nothing to gain from it.

Barnes has been nothing but respectful to most coaches he’s coached against. Penny wanted to run his mouth and opt out playing against us.

Just because Penny issued a fake apology, doesn’t mean all is forgiven.

Yep. And there are consequences for opening one’s mouth before one thinks. One Cent is getting that lesson the hard way.
