Personal Anecdotes - Political Addition

I will also add that the original tea party movement was very intriguing and appeared promising. That was when people like the Paul's, Amash, etc really came to the forefront. Like any movement the gets popular the mainstream high jacked it and even pushed out the originals that didn't bow down.

To add, social conservatives destroyed a generation of Millennial folks that might have agreed with them on economic policy. I will never trust a Republican, even if i agree with their economic policy.

I can't see a reason to trust either party. The choice is not binary, regardless of what the establishment wants everybody to believe.

If you think the GOP is friendly to personal rights, I have some waterfront property in AZ to sell ya.

When I first started to care about politics, I followed my Dad. He was a former Democrat, pissed off enough to vote for Perot twice. I actually voted for Bush in my high school mock election. But when I started to listen and pay attention, I understood. Conservatives want to control. They like to talk about freedom and whatever. But that isn't what they care about. They only want to control.
I don’t see how conservatives want to “control” more than liberals.

Yeah I totally buy the "if you embrace gay marriage we'll totally drop socialism and let the markets operate freely." Sounds so easy 🤣

When I got my engineering degree I was the typical left leaning college grad with an intellectual superiority complex.

Then I got my first job which was primarily on a factory floor. After a few thousand hours I realized I had way more admiration and enjoyment from my team of electricians and mechanics who had supposedly opposite political viewpoints from me.

After a few years of reconciling that in my head, I realized I was pretty conservative by temperament. Which has been an interesting journey because I'm not a religious person, which is a stereotype of conservative people.
