We should have been in the NIT!
No, we shouldn't have. We made it to the sweet 16 in the big dance. How did Arkansas fare? How did mighty Auburn coached by the good Bruce almighty do? We lost the one player we could not afford to lose, and no one else was able step up. They were quicker, and our small ball did not work against them. FAU was 33 and 3 this year. It is not like we lost to a 16 seed.

Go get some guards that can score consistently. Practice over the summer. Talent wins games and you can't expect to be in the final 4 with iffy shooting percentages

The Vols being historically mediocre doesn't make these recent tournament exits less disappointing. I am very impressed and proud of this team for making the Sweet 16, and I never considered making the Elite 8 realistically possible. Yet, here we were again with a berth teed up for us behind a lower seed, and we just don't show up. Top to bottom, starting with Barnes, just epically disappointing.
Let me add for this line taken out of context - -"clean house.' You will not replace Barnes and expect someone else to take most of these players and change there mindset and abilities over night. With the portal starting fresh would not be as difficult as an action like this has been in the past.

Just disappointed. Not so much that we lost but the way we looked. Sweet 16 and we played just horrible on offensive end. Missed numerous chip shots near the basketball game, and the entire senior class put in a stinker. When Aidoo and Mashack are the ones leading you late in the 2nd half, that is all you need to know about how poorly we played on offense.

A blown opportunity again. You just couldn’t trust these guys or Barnes to run a reasonably effective offense all year and when our initial game plan wasn’t working we had zero contingencies and no answers.

Yes, I am bummed out, hurt, mad, disappointed and ready to throw something. BUT, I keep remembering the years where we didn't even make the NIT, much less the Big Dance. I guess next season I'll hop right back on the Big Orange roller coaster.

After beating Duke and getting their shot, I tried to put this team's dark capability out of my mind. That could not happen now with so much on the line, but it did. They look like the keystone cops during these moments, no one on the team can make a shot of any type, free throws hit the front of the rim, everyone stops moving and suddenly no one can dribble the basketball. I was hoping someone would step up and stop the madness but no one did, actually they spiraled farther downward. I can't even say, good effort. It was theirs to fumble away, I am sure they feel worse than us.

A bit difficult to be completely disappointed with a Sweet 16 considering that I had zero expectations of anything beyond a first or second round exit.

However, the loss to FAU was frustrating. This team had a pattern of somehow winning against a top tier team in one game and then dropping an easily winnable one right after. The path to an Elite 8 was really there for the taking even with ZZ’s injury. And yet we can’t seem to ever take that step when the chance is tantalizingly close.

Sadly, I thought we had a better chance once FAU won against FDU. FDU was this year’s “Cinderella,” and we always seem to volunteer (ironic) to be the program that allows the Cinderella to add to their story - like when we had possibly the best team in our program’s history a few years ago and let Loyola use us a punchline in their fairy tale.

Oh well . . . Still have to say that this was an overachievement in the NCAA Tournament considering the circumstances. I’d have just liked us to find a way to win ONE more game. An Elite 8 sounds do much better than a Sweet 16. But it is nice to be a habitual top 25 team after decades of mostly mediocre performance history as a program.

Or Florida Atlantic. They have been to a total of 2 NCAA tournaments in their history, and they had never won a tournament game until this year. And yet with 1 more win, they’ll have a Final Four, and we won’t.

Go K State!
K State will smoke them. They are a fun team to watch, but with the Vols eliminated I'll root for the Zags!

Both of those teams have real shooters that can hit, As much as I wanted to see the Vols move on, I'm not sure we'd be much of a match with either Mich St or K State. That was a good game and yes, KState will smoke them

If Tenn wants a championship team Barnes needs to go. As the saying goes “good is the enemy of great”. If the AD wants to over pay for a good but not great team, stay with Barnes. If the university wants a championship, he needs to find a younger coach with some balls and some fire. Pearl was the best we’ve had.

It would be nice, and I thought we had a legitimate shot this year. UT basketball had been around for over 100 years and we haven't made it past the elite 8, yet. Only the 9th time in the sweet 16. Perspective is right.
Well the NCAAT hasn’t been a thing for over 100 years either.

Bottom line, since you want to argue, we have only made it 9 times. Look back over the records of the past and you will see a lot of blanks in the postseason results column. We are better off right now then we have been in a while. There are many teams that would kill for 2 sweet 16 runs. It ain't over yet. Sorry if I can't reach down to the mindset of some on this site.

Bottom line you’re still looking at it the wrong way. 68 teams get in now. You had to win the SEC to get in when Mears was coaching. Not the easiest thing to do when the best team in college hoops history is in your conference.

Too much recency bias like the top 25 win metric people were using. Yes, the tournament happened to expand during the worst stretch of basketball in our history. We’ve been solid since the late 2000s overall. Tournament success pre 1985 and post 1985 gotta be looked at differently. Plus the fact that the NIT was the premier tournament 20 years earlier.

This is why we can't have anything nice....crying about having a top 20 team that made the Sweet 16 without the best PG in the conference. What the hell are folks crying about ?!? Would You rather they lost in the opening round ? There will be One team out of 300+ that will be happy how the season ended.Yeah, I reckon it sucks to only have the "16th best" team in the country.

Surprised me they made the sweet 16. Nothing in the last 2 months indicated they would. Very inconsistent team. On to 2023-2024.

I would also like to see one Final Four appearance by Tennessee in my life time.

Two years ago I said on here that at my age I just wanted to see the football Vols relevant again, they did not have to win the National title, but just give me a competitive team to enjoy.
I was granted that wish.

Now, being 73 by the time next BB season starts, I wish for a final four appearance. Heck, I might even go there to enjoy it.
God has blessed me with so many wonderful things, but not sure this will happen.

For a real perspective….look at the teams losing tonight (Friday). Bama going to fire Oats? 😂. Houston going to fire Sampson?😂 And I could go on and on. Hopefully…the ones taking this personal (like my brother who was a basket case today…embarrassing ) will move on and GET OFF THE LEDGE!!!
