Anyone have any experience with owning one as a pet? The girlfriend is wanting one for her birthday. My only experience with pigs is in the form of bacon, not in the pet form.

DO NOT DO IT. The snorting and squealing is the most annoying noise I’ve ever encountered.

For real, don't do it.

I work with a woman (well, bimbo would be accurate) who bought a "mini pig" last fall. I know she paid at least over $1200, probably well past that if we ever got the truth out of her.

Long story short, its already well past "mini".

Your girlfriend wants a piglet, and contrary to what the instagram pig people say, they won't stay that size forever.

Had a potbelly pig once. Smelled awful. They are extremely stubborn too. If you do get one, get a female. A male with attempt to mate with anything and everything.

I had one in high school. It was part of my ffa stuff

I named it porkchop.

Built it a nice big pen. Never stayed in it. Always ran with the cows.

NO!

they are glamor pets. they offer literally zero as far as a "pet" goes. A hamster or a gold fish would be more interactive. known 2 people to have them, both pigs just ignored people, never cuddled, never played, and they tend to get EVERYWHERE. one friend had to get steel doors after one kept breaking thru the wood ones.

Just go buy a whole hog, butchered and wrapped, and stuff it all in the freezer with a big bow on it. Then tell her you just fast-forwarded to the good part. Then say you’re welcome.
