Pete Buttigieg on paternity leave during supply chain crisis...

That may be true. I didn't have much faith in him to begin with. But I also didn't think I would ever have to complain about who the Secretary of Transportation was.
With this administration it's a top down cluster from the potato in charge to his worthless secretaries that have never held a job or written a paycheck. I'm just waiting for them to burn the entire country down over the next 3 years so everyone will wake up and see what a waste of space the democrats are.

This is intentional. Make no mistake.

This is a new one.
No it isn't. I've known about the leave since the end of August. Business Insider reported on Pete taking paternity leave on September 9 (link at end of rant). Pete also emailed the entire DOT workforce telling everyone he was going to be taking some time off to be with the newborn twins. Can't help it Fox News, the NY Post, and Tuckums just figured it out last night, that is their problem.

It was also reported in Politico that Pete has still been working remotely from Traverse City, albeit in a reduced capacity: “For the first four weeks, he was mostly offline except for major agency decisions and matters that could not be delegated,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation. “He has been ramping up activities since then.” As he does that, Buttigieg will “continue to take some time over the coming weeks to support his husband and take care of his new children,” the spokesperson added.

Can Pete Buttigieg have it all?

The ramp up started last week, as can be seen with Pete returning to the media circuit (I watched the interviews on multiple outlets) and attending meetings at the WH this week. He will be on this afternoon with Bret on Fox News, for example.

Media acting like this was some big secret were either not aware Pete took leave, or are outright lying. Anyways, I'll never fault any person for taking some time off to be with their newborn children. But y'all have at it. End rant/

Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave amid Biden supply-chain crisis

The Department of Transportation revealed late Thursday that Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave since mid-August amid the massive ongoing supply-chain crisis that is threatening the timely delivery of everyday consumer goods and holiday gifts, according to a new report.

Besides several recent television hits, Buttigieg has been lying low, Politico reported, citing his office. Buttigieg’s team told the outlet that the secretary has been on paternity leave for nearly two months to spend time with his husband and two newborn babies and plans to continue to give them support in the coming weeks. The office had not previously announced his time off.

Just so I'm clear, you free marketers believe the government should step in to solve a problem that has traditionally been solved by the free market?

I knew Pete's girlfriend would be here to defend him.

JK BTW.

I'm not acting like it's a secret but we have (and have had) a transportation crisis going on and I expect that is the priority of Sec Transportation. If such a job can be done part time during a crisis then I question the value of the position.

Govt caused the issues and then disappear once a crisis happens. Funny how fast the admin moved once FL told the world their ports were open for business

government policies definitely influences transportation - no way around that. Accordingly the government should be examining what they are doing that might be making the problem worse (eg. regulatory issues, policies in other areas such as employment that impact the transportation labor pool).

Since government will not allow the problem to be solved by the free market they must look at how they are exacerbating the situation.

What bothers me about this is it is being reported like it was some huge secret/scandal within certain segments of the media. I mean, I thought it was common knowledge among folks that follow politics closely that Pete was on leave, but I recognize I pay more attention to Pete than most folks do haha. But it was all over bird app, Reddit, etc.

I don't have any issues with folks debating whether we need the DOT position or not. That discussion has been going on long before Pete was in the Cabinet, and will continue long after he isn't any longer.

Btw, Pete's number 2 in the DOT, Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg, has been fulfilling his duties that could be delegated. So it isn't like the DOT was just closed since August.

Edit: a word

seems like ignoring the larger issue - focusing on how it's being reported ignores the underlying issue.

I'm not even debating the need for Sec Trans - I'm saying that in a leadership position that you intentionally chose you damn sure out to be exhibiting leadership when a crisis is linked to your area of responsibility. Yes family leave is important but so is choosing to be the leader of an organization and often times those two things are not compatible; particularly when things are going badly.

At this point it appears he's just a figure-head for the organization.

I’m sorry but there’s no reason for a father to take weeks off like the mother unless there’s something where the mother can’t take care of the baby and there are no other options. I get taking some time but some of these dads are taking 2-3 months and that’s ridiculous.

Well we just disagree on this. I think paternity and maternity leave is very important, especially for newborns, and even for government officials (well, except Potus, but that is a totally different animal).

Polly was fulfilling his duties while he has been on leave, so there is leadership in the department. And Pete showed leadership by delegating those tasks to her.

There is no mother though.
