Peterman Should Not Be Discouraged....

And yet everyone, including me, clamored for Butch to make a change at QB. And now so many are acting like it was bad coaching to give Peterman a shot. lol

What I don't understand is why he was still playing after he hurt his hand?
Hurt it early second quarter and before you say no one knew, Lunquist mentioned it right before the freeze play.

If he could not be expected to play any better than he did, why did the coaching staff throw him into that situation?

Because the fans were grumbling about needing improved q.b. play. So, he let us see that Peterman was not any better than Worley.

(1) fans quit grumbling about switching q.b.'s. (2) fans realize how bad the situation really is. (3) Fans quit second guessing the coach.

Mission accomplished.

I like Peterman but let's face it, he was given his shot and he crapped the bed! I will be amazed if we see him take another snap in a UT uniform.

The biggest worry I have with Peterman is that the guy still doesn't seem to know the offense. He always gets us in the wrong play. That is the big advantage Worley seems to have over him I hope he can get the mental part down he seems to have some talent.

Do yall not remember all the rollouts Kiffin did that revitalized Crompton? Seems to me that Worley was very good at rollouts in his recruit videos and some in that USC game. Don't know why we don't incorporate more rollouts. I know its a spread but we were told that the offense would be suited to fit what players we have.

Exactly.

Had Worley started, does he play as well? We'll never know.

Worley had played poorly to this point. Peterman, I'm guessing, showed out in practice and Jones needed to find playmakers.

Peterman should have gotten a half to get things going. Before his lame duck INT with 3:00 left the game was still well in hand at 10-7 with UT in FG range at the point that INT was made.

Then FL scored making it 17-7 instead of 10-10. Worley starts with an even score instead of 10 down. Totally changes the dynamic.

I can't disagree with the decision. I'm guessing Jones didn't know Peterman had a broken hand. He had to give the kid a shot and, even after he looked bad, continue to give him a shot and see if he calms his nerves.

It also took Kiffin until the UGA game to come to the conclusion that Crompton will absolutely not work in his offense unless he re-engineers it.

Coaches will wait and see if a player can make sense of their system before they change routes/blocking to accommodate designed roll-outs.

Ok, just to clear up 2 earlier issues:

1. The punter that struggled against UCLA (97 game) was David Leaverton (seems he was a bit scared of crowds).

2. Jerry Colquitt, the QB, indeed was hurt on the first play against UCLA in 94, but on a scramble, not a deep pass.

That is all :)

Don't discourage the kid. I saw Joe Namath in his first snap at Neyland fumble the ball. We should be encouraging all of our players to work to improve, not telling them how bad they are. That is not the mentality to build a successful program and certainly not worthy of any supportive fan base. Can you just imagine how bad NP felt about his performance? Have any of you ever been in a situation where you performed well below what you expected yourself to do? How bad did you feel after that? He doesn't need people telling him...he knows it. So, now what? How do we handle it publically in order to be a positive influence on his development? Ask yourself, if you were in the same situation, what would you want?

I think Peterman should have started throwing with his left hand during the game. He might have got more then 5 yards.

Quit freaking on Peterman. You want him to grow from this and get better in case his number is called again. Saturday was a mistake. Shat happens. Move on.

Concur....

In Peyton's last game at the swamp, I believe he threw for 450+ yards. UT still lost (no defense as usual). The KNS had a picture of Peyton walking into the locker room after the game and the caption read, "Don't Blame Him".

Yep. Peyton's 2 games in the swamp were losses, but he played great at a true soph., his first gm at Florida. Had em up 37-12 or something close to that midway thru the 3rd before Nilo Sylvan, Jay Graham and the Defense absolutely handed Florida the game.

There are plenty of players, as freshmen, sophomores or whatever who would've played better than poor Nathan. Don't mean to pike on, and I wish him well.... but his performance was historically bad.

In all fairness to him and logically speaking Peyton Manning could not have performed much better under the same circumstances. First game, at the Swamp, freshman,etc..

I can't agree with that at all. He has talent but that was absolutely horrible. Jones left him in apparently hoping the kid he'd watched all week in practice would repossess Nate's body... it never happened. Without much question even Nate could have done better than Nate did in those circumstances.

He should not let it destroy his confidence. However the net result is the Ferguson and perhaps Dobbs now get a chance to get live reps. With 3 Fr QB's, it was almost certain that at least one would transfer in search of PT. Right now, I'd have to say Peterman is the most likely candidate.
