So did the offensive coordinator (Knapp?) get shown the door along with Mora? How much of that staff was retained?

I don't think anybody knows much of anything yet. All the AJC is reporting is that the announcement could come tomorrow.

As a Falcons fan (unfortunately), I'm pretty flabbergasted and disappointed by this move. As GAVol points, out there hadn't even been a whiff of this hiring, and every indication was that Blank was going to do the reasonable thing and bring in an NFL assistant. There's nothing on Petrino's resume to make me think he'll be particularly successful in the NFL. He must have convinced Blank that he's got plenty of ideas about what to do about The Great Vick Experiment. Meanwhile Schaub will presumably go elsewhere and start, potentially turning into Brett Favre Redux.

Bah. Same old freaking Falcons, I guess, Blank or not.

The more I think about it, hiring Petrino makes a heck of a lot more sense than hiring Mora did. Petrino is at least a proven head coach which Mora was not. Petrino is also an offesnive minded coach with NFL coordinator experience. I can see the logic behind the hiring.

We'll see how it goes... With a good staff, Petrino could work out well. The NFC South is only a one-team division right now.

That's the thing about the NFC. As mediocre as the whole conference is, I don't think there is a single team that is really that far from a 9-10 win season.

One thing this does is buy Vick another grace period where everyone can say, "Well, he's having to learn a new system, again..."

If they change it up, anyway.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :p

well... i said last thursday b4 i left for the weekend that Petrino was leaving Louisville as soon as he lost his playmakers... apparently he was too greedy to wait for Bush to graduate. i pat myself on my back for calling this, though.

See that was my first reaction. well, that and i never really heard how the interview with Wisenhunt went...i thought they'd make a big push for hime? anybody know what happened there?

but to your point, i did think that petrino makes sense...he runs a sort of spread 'em out offense, and even though he didn't have a running qb so to speak, his offense should be able to take more advantage of Vick...now he'll need to get some WR's there that can actually spread out the defense.....

Carolina will be back next year.
man i hope so. they were just plain bad this year, and they were bad at pretty much everything.
