Peyton is exacting revenge from the Ravens in monumental fashion

The NFL needs to fix there QB rating system. How do you throw for 461 yds 7 tds and no ints and get a 141.6 qb rating?

Good question about the maximum NFL passer rating.

"The calculation of the NFL (and CFL) passer rating involves more steps than the NCAA formula. In order to establish a maximum value for an NFL player's passer rating, a separate calculation needs to be completed involving each of the following four categories: Completion Percentage, Average Yards Per Attempt, Percentage of Touchdown Passes, and Percentage of Interceptions. If the result in any category is less than 0, the given result should be 0. If the result in any category is greater than 2.375, the given result should be 2.375. This makes the maximum possible quarterback rating for the NFL 158.3. A perfect rating requires at least a 77.5% completion rate, at least 12.5 yards per attempt, a touchdown on at least 11.875% of attempts, and no interceptions." Passer rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

See this source for the actual equation. Trying to explain it verbally would leave anyone hopelessly lost.

In any event, based on these criteria, Peyton receives minor demerits for completion percentage (63.4%) and yds./att (11.27).

Yes it is. But he had points subtracted for yds per attempt and completion %.

I was thinking 141 was pretty good , at least I don't recall seeing it that often.I don't think you're going to see too many qb's with a 158, and I'm just glad Peyton's still got it!

It is good, but a perfomance like that is deserving of the highest rating. 7 td's in one game hasn't been accomplished in 44 years.

They were one crappy coverage play by a safety who no longer is on the roster from being in the SB last season. Peyton is not taking any chances on that happening again. Peyton gets it.

Did anyone else see the introduction of the Bronco offense? Peyton said ( with that patented smirk of his) " Peyton Manning. The University of Tennessee." That smirk is the polite way of saying " Damn right!"

But QB rating is about the whole deal, not just one aspect.

He had a fantastic game statistically, but at the same time there were other passing categories, - for example - he was 27/42...should a guy really get what's deemed a "perfect" rating if 15 passes fall incomplete? (even if it is Manning) Or just because he set a record?

Don't sacks factor in too? I know he was sacked at least twice last night.

No. Only these factors are involved in NFL passer efficiency rating: Completion Percentage, Average Yards Per Attempt, Percentage of Touchdown Passes, and Percentage of Interceptions. A perfect rating requires "at least a 77.5% completion rate, at least 12.5 yards per attempt, a touchdown on at least 11.875% of attempts, and no interceptions." For the actual equation used in calculating NFL passer efficiency, see Passer rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Can he get 5000 yds passing this season? He's never done it. That's over 400 yds plus a game for 16 games. How about breaking his current TD's of 48 (50 the record!)?

To some extent, he has been a victim of his own success. In several of his most dominating seasons, the Colts ran away with the division title early and he sat most of the last couple of games. It would help if someone in the division stayed close enough to the Broncos that they could not afford a similar strategy.

Or like last year when the 1 seed was still up for grabs in week 16 between 3 teams.

His personal best is 49 TDs in a season which was the record until Brady broke it in the 16-0 season with 50 (of course he had a little help from Randy Moss who also broke the single season record by a WR and accounted for nearly half of the 50).

Would be nice to see him get the record back on his way to a second Super Bowl win.
