She literally turned down some amazing jokes (google them and you can find them) for her own stuff. Because she said "They don't know what humor is." before the show. So, all the comedians and celebs on the dais knew this woman thought she was hilarious and funnier than anyone else there before hand. And the fact she wasn't there to try to be funny, but promote her book, only made it worse.
Steve-o and the Situation tried to be funny on their own and bombed. But we made fun of them and moved on. Ann hired someone to write jokes for her and bombed so we make fun of her even more.
As far as mean spirited, I'm not sure you watch many roasts. This was a pretty standard one really. Just be glad they don't have Jeselnick or Lisa Lampanelli anymore because they would've been far worse.
I agree. The 9/11 jokes were spectacular. Getting his ashy skin from his dad? Fantastic. The Roast of his dad being in 2001? Epic.
As for Ann, I don't believe that she hired anyone. Comedy Central seems to hire roast writers and it's their job to consult with the roasters to create a set list. The jokes Mike Lawrence told were great. I was surprised she didn't use the Peyton forehead/wall joke
