Great story.

In 1997, Peyton's senior year, the Vols lost to UF in Gainesville and like all Vol fans, I was extremely disappointed. I hated to read all of the negative articles being written about Manning, how he 'choked' and could never beat the Gators. I decided to write to him and say I was proud he was the qb of the Vols and glad that he had come back his senior year. I was surprised to receive a brief thank you note and an autographed picture a week later from him. That autographed picture remains the only sports memorabilia on my desk.

Can't believe you didn't include a picture! Let's see it!

Very cool story, thanks for sharing. Peyton has been a blessing to UT football

Not surprised. He is just that classy. We were very fortunate that things worked out the way they did and he became a Vol. He is truly a Tennessee legend and treasure. A true VFL. Thanks for sharing.

Peyton is pure first class and so is that family. I was able to meet him at OCI while in college and he was there late on a Saturday night during the spring semester (2010) with some older folks. The place was packed as usual with students and everyone was wanting to get a chance to meet him. Peyton took the time to get up and make some circles around the bar a speak with a lot of his fans, even though most were heavily intoxicated. Before visiting with anyone else, he came right up to me and some friends and spoke to us for close to 10 minutes. He is the same person in the interviews and commercials as he is in real life. Most famous people want the fame but don't care to show much appreciation towards their supporters other than a smile and wave. There are thousands of stories about Peyton similar to mine and the original post. He made a name for himself on the field but he is a legend because of what he does off it. There is no athlete I would rather have represent UT than him.
