PG Spot

We know we have Maze but who will be backing him up early on in the season? Goins is recovering from surgery and may miss a few games so with Tabb most likely not coming back who on the team will be our backup point? I hope to god we have someone else who can play point other than JP Prince.

Unfortunately, I think Prince may play some point this year.

No they aren't. He might be a lights out shooter, but he is simply not quick or strong enough to play PG against a high-major schedule.

I disagree. I think he can. He would be more than adequate. I bet he plays both the 1 and 2 spots before his career is over.

if he plays at the 1, it is an absolute indictment of our recruiting efforts.

I still believe that you are underestimating his abilities. I am not saying it will happen immediately. It usually takes freshmen a while to adapt. Just saying that I think he will contribute at both spots before he is finished.

Neither of us are saying he won't. I agree with BPV that if he is playing the 1, it is because the staff has struck out on the recruiting trail.

Look for Prince to have a break out year regardless of where he plays. You folks sre now on him because he isn't a great shooter, but he does many things very well.

There are any of our pg's or wings that are majoring in defense. Hopefully, that will be improved this year.

Name something he does well besides be tall and have long arms. J.P. Prince is a liability on offense and mostly nonexistent on defense.

Without JP, we don't win at Xavier or beat Memphis in the 1-2 game. He's not always playing sound basketball, but be careful what you wish for. The kid is not that bad and he is dangerous when he roams the offensive baseline, plus he gets on the offensive glass very well. If he can stop being too much of a defensive liability, he will be a very solid player for us this year.

Prince won the Memphis game for us. He is a talented player who is not a great shooter.

Prince may have been a pretty big part of that Memphis win, but he didn't win it for Tennessee. I wish you guys would get that out of your heads. I also don't care how talented he is, he doesn't play smart basketball, and until he does I will continue to dog him for it.

What is it exactly that Prince does that is so bad. We have other players that are challenged defensively. Why don't you bash all of them, instead of just Prince.

for starters, cherry picking. He is lazy on defense (and yes, that is a problem with multiple players, but Prince is probably the worst, which is where the cherry picking comes in). He isn't consistently motivated. His shot selection leaves a bit to be desired as well, no way that guy should have taken 24 3PA last year, should have been a lot closer to 0. He improved on it a bit last year, but without the 3s, his FG% is somewhere around 63%

Last edit: free throw shooting.

I will give him credit for one thing though, his assist to turnover ratio improved from 07-08 to 08-09.

I won't dog him for his terrible play at the point though, he didn't put himself there.

So, who is the third option behind Maze and Goins?
"Probably Michael Hubert," Pearl said, referring to a junior walk-on. "And J.P. (Prince) potentially could play the position."
From Pearl himself. Sorry kiddos your obsession will not be playing point this year
