I completely understand that your chances of success are typically better with higher rated players, but let me ask a question and ask for everyone to be honest.

If you didn't know the rankings, or the names on the jersey....how would you rank our 3 freshman?

Thompson a 4 star, Hubbs a 4 star, and AJ a 3 star.

I think Cofer and Austin will both get bumped up to 4 stars and will be top 100 players on all sites.

He just got into the top 100 last update. He'll continue to get a bump I think. His stat line is insane.

Here's a post from his thread....

ESPNs 2014 rankings just came out..

Cofer earned a 4th star and is ranked the #56 player in the country.

Other Tennessee targets:

#7 Kevon Looney
#11 Leron Black
#16 Jaquan Lyle
#17 Jalen Lindsey
#25 Ahmed Hill
#26 JaKeenan Gant

ESPN had him ranked way higher than other sites. I think he's gonna be a great player for us.

Yeah I dont really like ESPN rankings at all just curious why they had moved him so much.....I do too, nothing really to base it on but I feel like he might end up being a special player and fan favorite.

Is there a place to just view freshman stats bc this is not fair without comparing them to other freshmen but if I was ranking just off what I have seen I would put D Thompson 101-130, AJ Davis at the end of the top 150 or just outside the top 150. Hubbs, I would put at the end of the top 100....more bc of his elite level athleticism than production at this point.

I do think all three show alot of potential so far though.

I was meaning more just off our team, 1-3, how would you rank them if you didn't know anything about them.

IMO Thompson 1, Davis 2 and Hubbs 3 off of what we have seen.

As for freshman stats, not sure there is a site, but I don't know that, that would be the best way. There's gonna be some obscure schools with freshman playing big minutes though, there numbers may be better but doesn't necessarily mean they are if that makes sense.

I know Thompson ranks first in the SEC amongst freshman in a:to and steals per game.

D Thompson stats are 3.6 PPG 1.9 RPG 2.4 APG 1.3 SPG
AJ Davis 2.2 PPG 2.3 RPG
R Hubbs 5.0 PPG 1.5 RPG 0.7 APG

I would rank them as follows:

1. R Hubbs
2. D Thompson
3. AJ Davis

most of this is bc of Hubbs elite level athleticism.....I do think Thompson has performed better than hubbs so far but none of the freshman are exactly lighting it up.

I think things are going to start clicking for Hubbs here in a few weeks once SEC play starts. His shot is so beautiful it just isn't falling right now.

I think the get a lot of top recruits because of their education? I could be wrong though.

My impression is the top recruits don't plan on getting an education as they plan to leave college early. I would imagine the difficulty of the education would be a recruiting disadvantage for Stanford as it takes a fairly serious student to be successful there.

It's a beautiful campus as I have a son that goes there. Athletic fan support is nothing close to the level of the SEC. In 2012, average home fball attendance was 43,343 and men's bball 4,350. We average over 17K for men's bball. To me, that would be a huge recruiting advantage.

Yeah but those west coast kids aren't going to come out east to play. I mean one of their recruits Reid Travis turned down Duke to go to Stanford. So I really don't understand what you are saying?

Sorry if I was unclear.

My opinion is out of the top 100 ranked mens bball recruits, a small percentage of them would be able to pass admission standards at Stanford which limits their potential recruiting base compared to UT which I assume would accept any top 100 recruit that cleared the NCAA clearing house.

You picked out a single recruit as your example and his other choice was Duke which has a strong academic reputation. I'm not familiar with Duke's athletic admissions standards, maybe they accept any recruits the Coach K wants or maybe they have higher standards also?

I think we are talking about different things.

Reid Travis isn't a West Coast kid, though. He's from Minnesota. Clearly, he was a rare example of an elite level recruit who had the academics to qualify for Stanford or Duke. Those guys are going to look at elite schools, no matter where they live.

Duke also has pretty high entrance standards.

Duke's recruiting class is also ridiculously good and he may have wanted all the playing time he could get without having stiff competition.
