does he fit bruce\s system?

all players arent gonna fit right in what bruce does. so it would be pointless to bring them in.

I am almost certain it is a grade issue. We are holding our offer until we see that his grades are in order. But, he knows we are definately interested in him once he qualifies.

im not for sure on jones. he may be a 4* on scout, which is usually generous with its rankings, but hes not even rated on rivals. pearl said he wont give a scholly in the spring unless its to a guy that will make an impact in the oncoming year. if we take a player in the spring, it will likely be to kiwan smith or ramar smith. ramar is the #6 sg in the nation and is 5*. kiwan is a highly ranked sf and is 4*. kiwan is a little undersized at 6'7" 200 but is extremely athletic.

isn't it true that we can't offer a scholarship because that would mean we would have to release brent smith for the rest of the year?

We need a point guard or we're screwed. :mf_surrender:

If need be Jujuan Smith can run the point! He did it in HS. Bruce will just have to control him a bit!

Actually, Pearl is not even looking for a PG in this class. He is convinced that Johnson can run the point, and he also thinks Tabb is capable. Although, he has been quoted as saying he fully expects Johnson to be the starting PG next season. So, knowing that Pearl has that much confidence in him are you still so concerned about getting a PG? You haven't seen Johnson and Tabb play more than Pearl has seen them play have you? We will get the "best available" no matter what the position. And, if the best available won't have an immediate impact then we will save the scholly for next season.

sorry, but no way johnson will be a pg next year. the dude is playing center at his hs. it will take at least half a season for him to transition. we do have lots of options for pg(bradshaw, smith, lofton, tabb, johnson, another signee) but none will be great.

6-11 ?? That reminds me. I've noticed that ballerinas are always on their toes.

Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?

Eh, Johnson is playing PG. Jones may be overlooked as Duke Crews is begging Pearl to sign another 3/4 (Crews is technically a 3/4). Pearl asked Crews why we should sign a guy that plays his position. Crews told Pearl he'd worry about his PT, the kid (don't know his name) is a player and Pearl should sign him. So we'll see in February who this kid is I guess. Common belief is that he's talking about Kiwan Smith.

Sorry, didnt know you were so informed when it comes to recruiting. Since you seem to know more about Johnson than Pearl I'll be sure you get him your email so he can email you for advice.

dont get pissy with me rick. its the truth. it has been reported that johnson is being forced to play center this year because his team isnt that big. believe it or not, a 6'5" athlete can dominate at center at the high school level.

Ok? I didn't dispute that he is playing center this year in high school. But, that has nothing to do with what position he will play when he gets on campus at UTK. Pearl has made a number of statements about Johnson being the man he expects to step in and play PG next season. He says he is very underrated as a PG. I'm just saying that is Pearl (who has seen him play personally and watched probably countless hours of his gametape) says that I'm going to take his word over yours. I don't think that is pissy. But, if that is what you want to call it then fine.

I guess the recruiting of Kemp was a mirage. My bad.

Pearl is saying the right thing. He's saying he'll play the hand he has. However, if a quality JC point guard expresses interest, I guarantee Pearl would consider bringing him aboard.

We are obviously talking about after his recruitment had ended. Kemp is one of the best PG's in the country and in our back yard. Yes, Pearl is going to go after him.

:stop: Pearl went after him and unless the kid changes his mind, or dies, he's going Italian with Calipari. Johnson would make a nice backup, downtime PG but we need a true PG, SEC level.

We might want to save the scholarship...also he would be a headache for Pearl if he couldn't stay eligible

wilburnVol's evaluation of Johnson: Johnson would make a nice backup, downtime PG but we need a true PG, SEC level.

Bruce Pearl's evaluation of Johnson: In term of this class, in 4 years Johnson will be talked about right up there with Crews and Chism. Most people don't know how good he is going to be. He is very underrated. His PG abilities are very underrated.

You can choose to believe whichever of those opinions you want. Because like they say we are all entitled to our own. But, personally I'm going to go with the opinion of the man who has one over 80% of his games since he has been coaching college basketball and has actually seen Johnson play enough to make a fair evaluation of him. wilburnVol you are basing your opinion on what you read by newspaper columnists and demwit writers on rivals.com whose primary goal is to just make money. So, if you want to believe those people's eye for talent over that of Bruce Pearl go ahead. But, I'm going with what Pearl says until he proves to me that he is not a realiable source.

WilburnVol has some pretty impressive company. Lute Olson and Rick Pitino both recruited Johnson to play the wing, not the point.

Don't believe Olson or Pitino run the same offensive system as Pearl. I think Pearl knows what it takes to play the PG position in "his system" pretty well. Don't you?
