A man that has devoted his life and income to predicting college football scores agrees with the realists on VN......but hey, we're just negavols.

Well he is not that great at it.....I agree should be big underdogs in this one though.

More like he's devoted his life to being a negavol!! I can't even remember the last time he picked Tennessee to beat a top 5 team on the road!! I've just about had enough of his "predictions"

He also picked Ohio State to beat Va. Tech.
If he talked to Stoops, he should have asked him why he has 2 players on scholarship that have beaten women (Green-Beckham, Mixon) and Mixon broke the girls jaw.

Nothing I haven't heard yet. These bits got a lot of bulletin board material for motivation. Let's prove the world wrong

I have bleed orange for the better part of 50 years, since I was old enough to tune in my old AM radio and I will state right here I hope we keep it as close as PS predicts. Now do not get me wrong I am hoping for an upset but I know if we play OU a 100 times maybe we win 5 of them. I hope this is one of those 5. But out of the other 95 losses some will be bad, and some would be demoralizing losses for a young team. I just do not want the team to suffer a beat down. Flame away if you want but I am trying to give an honest accessment of where we stand as of today.

I am on record with 41-24 with Oklahoma winning. I don't think they keep us under 20 unless Worley gets hurt. I would like to pick the Vols but Freak's pick the score contest is way too important.

this is sensible. This game should've been bought out. I'm not sure whether the ad is that close to broke or what. Our young players don't need the kind of learning opportunity that they get tomorrow. That said the game will be played and we will almost certainly lose and it is very likely that OU will beat us at least as badly as we beat USU. Hopefully our guys can push through and keep their chins up because there are some winnable games coming up that could get us back in bowl contention.

Phil Steele is great at researching teams. I was getting his weekly newsletter for ten years. Best analysis guy out there and he will go on a nice streak from time to time. But over a season he still averages around 63%.

Who gives a crap? Just another so called expert who is giving his opinion. I bet he had OSU waxing VT also.

blah, blah. You just look them in eye and go "you like the way this feels" "then don't let it happen again". Vols are gonna shock EasSPN and the world. For the record I hope this game puts a dark stain on EasSPN that drives them into bankruptcy. (I know it won't, people will still listen).

Phil Steele is traditionally very kind to the Vols and predicts in our favor often...or at least says positive things about our future even when others are laughing. It hurts my orange ego to read this OU vs TN prediction but when you compare the numbers and the difference in depth and size between the two teams as well as the winning record at home for our opponent, I find it very difficult to argue with him. I think the Vols have heart and are improving and will take advantage of some mistakes early on but I can't look past the size of our Oline and the youth across the board. We need bionic Freshmen and mistake free execution to play an entire game competitively against this deep and talented OU team. Realism does not make me less of a fan. I will celebrate a good effort after an expected defeat as a good fan should. Regardless, I will still be wearing my orange socks and my National Champion shirt inside out...this time...it might just work! GO VOLS!

This is a great site that shows how well the football pickers actually do at picking. Phil Steele is really solid overall, but my cursory review of the past few years shows that he is mid-pack, or worse, at picking the SEC.

Preseason Prediction Accuracy (2013)

That is rating the accuracy of pre-season conference standings predictions. Has very little correlation to picking game scores in-season

He picked The Ohio State to roll VT
He picked Texas to beat BYU ended up BYU 41 Texas 07
He has been good in the late 90's and through the best part of 2000's but he seem to over analyze it and throws the eye test out the window he's just over 50% lately = blind hog /acron.

Yeah I would much rather teach our young players to be afraid and run scared of good teams. Good grief....Butch will keep this team mentally tough even if we get rolled by OU.

They put their pants on one leg at a time. Most know it's a long shot, but some of you sound down right pathetic. Let's let them play the game and see how it turns out. No surprise if we get hammered , most think that's how it will go, but boy wouldn't it be funny if Tennessee took OU into the 4th quarter still hanging around. OU has let bad teams beat them so it isn't out of the realm of possibility..

Phil Steele's computer does the picking; it's all formulas, statistics, fairy dust, and whatnot IMO.

As previously mentioned he missed on VT/OSU and BYU/Tejas just last week. Does that mean we win? No, but it just shows that anything can happen.

Was it over when the germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
