He certainly wasn't an elite talent. There were about 25 QBs in the country who would have done the same thing if surrounded by the personnel he played with at OU. Casey Clausen was more talented than Jason White.
NFL success isn't the only indicator of how much talent a college team has. It is, however, the best measure. We'll have to disagree on the comparison of those two, because I don't want to get into that, TBH.
As for UT's talent in those bowl loss seasons, and as for talent in general: I was pretty sure you were a guy who agreed that college talent doesn't always translate into NFL talent. UT, in terms of pure football physical talent, was a better team than either Maryland or Clemson. However, those two ballclubs were better prepared, more determined, and better coached.
This says it all, SC in a romp. :crazy:To those predicting SC in a romp or bashing MSU:
Remember, SC was EXTREMELY lucky to perform the way they did last season. They played over their potential, and MSU has improved every year under Croom.
I think SC wins by around 8-10, but this game won't be a 35-10 affair. The Bulldogs did lose Norwood, but SC's run defense stunk and could get worse. I'm not sold on Mitchell, and they also lost their top 7 tacklers. Some of my most respected sharps are picking MSU to cover the +7 (and even the +6.5).

I meant to post this last night, but Vol Freak pwned the forum.
I don't disagree.
Clemson 2003 players DRAFTED into NFL:
LB/DE Bennett
DB Hill
QB Whitehurst
DT Washington
WR Hamilton
CB Miller
LB Hill
WR Currie
UT 2003 players DRAFTED into NFL:
RB Fleming
WR Jones
C Wells
LB Burnett
P Colquitt
RB Houston
DB Wilson
DB Allen
LB Gaither
LB Simon
DE Haralson
RB Riggs
So, just on draftees, UT's 2003 team had 12 draft picks, Clemson had 8. I think UFA's would increase UT's "lead."
