Pick your poison: Tressel, Butch Davis or Petrino?

Tressel is the best coach and recruiter on that list.

an awful lot of evidence to support your opinion. Just need to hire a couple of additional people in the compliance office in order to "go over and beyond" to secure total compliance. The contract would have to be carefully prepared as well. All-in-all, I think it is doable, not necessarily the easiest, but doable.

With pretty much all up and coming coaches out of the picture and no Gruden in sight... which coach of the 3 with checkered pasts is the best fit?

I would go with (in this order) Tressel, Petrino, Davis.

Davis I'm not impressed with I feel like it could be a Kiffin 2.0 experience with us running him out of town after a few .500 seasons.

Tressel would be a big hit the first season with the sanctions and maybe show some desperation but I think he would make us forget that in the long run. It wouldn't look great PR wise but then we have 6 months to forget about all that til kickoff. He would be a solid hire but may be too much like Bruce Pearl for the University/Hart.

Petrino while maybe a good coach is a clown. The whole motorcycle incident shows his intelligence. That with the whole Atlanta Falcons deal shows his character. I'd be afraid this guy really could screw things up and leave us both in shambles and a laughing stock.

Well where in the heii do you think we are now? Patrino would do nothing but help this team get up out of the gutter!

I don't think Butch is a poison. He has done a good job everywhere his been. The worst he would do is stock us with talnet before left. But most likely he would win like he always has.

Face it, Tressel isn't going to happen. We just had our probation extended and he still has 3.5 years on his show cause penalty. This guy is radioactive, especially for us.

Butch Davis would succeed here. The question is, did he really get a clean bill of health from the NCAA? If searched, and the only references I can find are on fan sites of teams looking for a coach.

Petrino would win here, too. And quickly. As someone said, we aren't hiring a pope, we're hiring a football coach. I imagine we could get him cheap, back-end load his contract, and get an iron clad morality clause and a huge buyout.

Davis any day of the week. Improved consistently at UNC. Never named in NCAA investigation. Built such a good program at Miami that Larry Coker won a national title with it

Tressel: 5-3 in BCS bowls, 1-2 in NC games, additionally 3-1 in Division 1-AA NC games.
Petrino: 0-1 in BCS bowls (lost to Tressel), no NC games
Davis: 1-0 in BCS bowls, no NC games, though Miami under Karry Coker won the NC game the year after Davis left.

Got to go with Tressel in spite of NCAA show cause. He's the most consistent winner. After winning 3 NCs in Division 1-AA, stepped up to Division 1-A and went to 8 BCS bowls in 10 years. I don't think a resurrected Bear Bryant could come in to Tennessee and go to a BCS bowl next year, so it is worth it to let Tressel sit out the first 5 games, knowing that chances are really good that a BCS bowl is forthcoming in a couple or three years.

Sorry, with the show cause, the NCAA would say, "Hire him if you want to, but if you do here are the sanctions you'll be facing," and then they'll go medieval.

I'm legally forbidden from using the word "never" but Jim Tressel will never be the UT coach.

Tressel...NCAA baggage along with that record he'll bring. Doesn't like to move around and frankly still be with Ohio St if it weren't for that terrible offense of free tattoos'.

Face it, the first year will be spent just righting the program in the right direction. We'll be lucky to get any bowl. I'll throw one year out for looking at long term. Even Saban had a horrible first year at Bama. Tressel is a proven winner. I just haven't heard or seen comments on i he' interested in coaching or not. Just rumors of teams conidering him.

Tressel, a good AD should be able to find a creative solution to get him here!
