I wish somehow bama, FSU, and Oregon would all lose Saturday and really screw up the playoffs. Its gonna be bama and FSU I'm afraid though.

It really is true. It doesn't matter if the 8th best team in the SEC could beat the champ of any other conference. At the end of the day you're still the 8th best team in your own league with a 6-6/7-5 type record.

Alright.. I see I am going to have to take this point by point for you jaded Vols fans.

Monetary Gains: When Bama beat Notre Dame for the national title, they earned the SEC $23.6 million.

Recruiting: SEC schools have consistently dominated the top 10 recruiting classes (per rivals) over the past several years.

Benefit of the Doubt in BCS/CFB Playoff Rankings: This one should speak for itself.. we have seen a two loss LSU win the NC.. we have seen two SEC teams faceoff in the NC.. and up until this week, despite being undefeated, FSU is only ranked third in the playoff rankings .. I could go on and on, but you get the idea (or you should anyway).

So besides just being pissy because your team has had a rough time lately.. do you have any real evidence that being a part of a winning conference does not help your team in any way?

I must be in the minority. I root for all sec teams in the bowls. It doesn't mean I hate them any less during the season. I just like our conference to be the best. If we don't win our bowls, that distinction of being the best goes away. It does have its benefits for all of us. We get the better bowls, we almost had two teams in four team playoff. The money and revenue is split amongst the sec teams. Once we gain back our relevancy, we will want the sec to be recognized as the best. It might just get us in the playoff with a loss, maybe even two. Do you think the big ten would ever get a team in it with two losses? I think not, but if they had the sec prestige it could happen. Ohio st would be a lock with one loss if they were in the sec or the big ten was more dominant. Just imo.

Obviously we benefit. I don't disagree. The real question is does our "benefit" put us farther behind those we are chasing. Meaning does Bama winning help Bama more then it helps us. I think the answer to that question is yes. Which means we fall farther behind them. For this reason I hope they lose.
