Picked to win the NIT

Not sure what crystal ball this guy is using for his predictions.
We play 3 games at home.
If we get by Savanah, Mid Tn, Marshall and Miami would all be considered upset wins for TN. (as per RPI and ESPN BPI)
Ken Pom makes us a shaded favorite over Md Tn but Miami is still an upset.
Like to see it but this team hasn't shown the character to win 2 in a row away from home against good competition.
The NIT is good experience, but the odds of winning the whole shebang aren't in our favor.

Very weak field.

With that said, UT will face only zone if opponents are smart. All it will take is one off night shooting, which isn't asking a lot for this team and they will lose.

I am hoping for the best - CCM did a great job turning this team around. They over-achieved IMO.

This is a great way to end the year - get some more games in and experience. Get tournament ready.

This team had a golden opportunity to make the dance, after playing their ass off to get into that position, only to fall flat on their face. If we have to face a team that zones us the entire game, we are history. Not one consistent outside threat on the entire team. Teams that can control Maymon and Stokes inside will beat us pretty easily.

Don't know if you can say losing in OT to a pretty good Ol' Miss team while shooting only 28% is falling flat on your face. Effort was good, D was good, just no shots falling. Part of that was Ol' Miss D but Vols had an awful lot of clean looks (sometimes 2-3 in a possession)and just couldn't get one to go down. Only way they don't advance deep in NIT is just quit playing and I don't see this team doing that. Can they win it all? If they play as hard as they did the last 10 ball games and make a few shots when it counts, then yeah.

i will say the only thing i'm worried about is one of these teams watching game film on us from the ole miss game. it's obvious every teams game plan against us should be to play the zone. hopefully maymon and stokes show up

Here is my response to all saying when we leave TBA we are history. Most teams in this field didnt get passed over by NCAA if they could do damage away from home. We had a good resume compared to peers and Rewarded with home games. Now just gotta get to work. We have never had oppurtunity to finish a season with a win except in years with no postseason at all. And those seadons are usually better forgotten. It would be nice entering next season with 5 game win streak from this season with some cut nets from MSG in our trophy case. GO VOLS!

The NIT is a "who cares" tourney, in my mind. The NCAA tourney is full of weak or mediocre teams who've been ushered into an expanded format merely to make money for CBS and the NCAA--and the NIT is for teams that can't get in the NCAA. A few decent teams are in the NIT, but it's still a yawn--like about 28 of the 30 or so bowl games in football, many of which feature utterly mediocre teams. Post-season play isn't what it used to be, that's for sure. You may be crappy--but if we in TV Land can make a buck off you, you're in!

You don't have to watch. I am proud of this team for even getting to the NIT. Honestly, I would rather they play there than go one and done in the NCAA.. Sure it doesn't have the panache that the big tournament does, but so what? This team was predicted to finish way down the food chain and they are the #1 seed in a tournament... good for us...

Durand Scott, one of Miami's two premeire guards, has been suspended indefinitely for receiving impermissible benefits from former Canes coach Frank Haith. he may not be available for the NIT. Huge blow to the Canes.

bwaaaa haaaaa haaaaaaaa

NIT? Not what we wanted, but another opportunity for the team to learn how to compete, win games, and better. :good!:

What is your point. Most of us will enjoy it. We do not need you for this.

ArmChair is right. The NCAA and NIT have expanded to the point of being ridiculous. Totally watered down the regular season championships. When you have 10 teams from one conference, there is something grossly wrong. Sub .500 against your conference foes but still in a post season tourney? Rididculous. Does the NIT champ chant "We're number 69" this year?

All this RPI and SOS and God knows how many other rankings are all just to support the fact the best 16 or 32 aren't playing it off. I think 32 was the right number personally. Beyond that is just a money (TV) grab.

Ask vcu and george mason if 32 is enough.

I feel that if we had won Ole Miss he might have been. Top 3 now. JMO IMO BBQ

I agree with this. Im ready for this next game to start so I can get that bitter taste out of my mouth. That loss was gut wrenching. Or as Stephen says. I was gutted.

With the Vols having the top five attendance in basketball, seemed they'd be a shoe in for NCAA.

32 should be the limit. Not good enough to make it, then try harder next year. No matter what the number, there is always whining that someone got left out. VCU and GM missed a field of 68! We have so diluted the NCAA tourney that it means nothing until the final 16 play off. By then you have already played (4+32+16) games. 52 games all for TV that just route out for the most part the teams that shouldn't be there to begin with. Yes some teams get upset, but the majority of the final 16 are the top seeds to begin with.
