I think its great. gets the kids interested. not just the same bland word problems. and for the parents who turned in the teacher I wonder when the last time their son talked to them about test questions. something like that that breaks up the duldrum of the classroom can be a good tool.

No it's not. Everybody buys watermelon and eats it. It's not the amounts that make it real life, it's the activity that is not real life. Most people aren't in a gang, especially in a gang with members of the opposite sex with whom they fornicate. Everybody identifies with watermelon.
