I remember back in 2001 when we fired Green and Pitino had t taken the U of L job yet, I was convinced we had a shot at him. Even back then, there were airport rumors, long before Grumors. It’s funny how those rumors have always been basically the same, with just different names.
You mean Barnes? No doubt. I don’t argue that at all. I only wanted Pitino in 2001. I was ecstatic getting Barnes. I still am. I think the only guy I mentioned after Tyndall was Forbes but he was unproven as a HC then and word broke quickly about Barnes being in play, and I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else. The book was out on Pitino at that time, I wanted nothing to do with him after his scandal.I didn't articulate well enough. My point was that when Tyndall was fired, he was a far better option than Pitino.
He has? Pitino is in his 35th full season as a college head coach and has had one losing season, going 13-14 at Boston University in 1980-81.He's also had many more down years than Barnes
Down years and sub .500 seasons aren’t the same thing. He has? Pitino is in his 35th full season as a college head coach and has had one losing season, going 13-14 at Boston University in 1980-81.
Barnes is in his 37th full season as a college head coach and has had three losing seasons: 1991-92 at Providence, 2012-13 at Texas, and 2015-16 with the Vols.
So a coach winning 20 games at UT and making the tournament is the equivalent of making the Final Four at one of the programs you mentioned? I want to make sure I follow your logic every time the goalpost, or in this case the basket, is moved.
They both coached at Providence - one was there two seasons and went to the Final Four. The other was there six seasons and lost in the first round three times. Which one had more down years?
