Pitt and Syracuse Send Letter of Application To The ACC

The ACC is trying to head of a potential raid of the ACC by the SEC.

It was always believed that the Big East would swallow the Big East. However, the ACC is acting preemptively to save it's own bacon.

Does this stop the SEC from going after Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, or Florida State?

Eventually, the Big Ten will try to move into the northeast and could snare Maryland and Virginia.

The ACC is adding good basketball schools that are mediocre in football. I can see a SEC foray into the ACC to grab some schools.

Wonder what the Big Ten thinks of this. This may prompt them to pull Rutgers and/or UConn in. They've long wanted to get more of a presence to the east, and two of the big players just came off the board.

Overreaction. The SEC 'may' get A&M, so the ACC signs two mediocre teams. Virginia Tech is stuck in the ACC for a while because they burned so much political capital getting out of the Big East. Florida State says their happy playing an easy ACC schedule, and rest are off the table.

No mention of West Virginia in this news, likely means West Virginia is coming to the SEC.

Also Baylor and Iowa state inquiring with the ACC, again no mention of Missouri, are they likely considering SEC also?

Pitt and Cuse both have a Heisman Trophy winner, a BCS bowl appearance, and a national championship in the last 50 years.

It's a very smart move by the ACC to be proactive and do all the can to keep the BigTen and SEC away from their schools.

Would have liked hearing there were 3 teams involved. Might indicate Va Tech coming to SEC. Don't want WVU.

I thought Pittsburgh was always on the Big 10's radar; that seemed like a better fit to me and I would love to see the Penn St./Pittsburgh rivalry start back up.

I figured the Big 10 would try and grab em before they officially applied to the ACC.

Well, the SEC IS getting A&M at this point. The Commissioner is already talking about related things for them "when" they join the conference, rather than if. As one of ESPN's bloggers put it:

Texas A&M's entrance into the SEC isn't official just yet, but there's no doubt that Slive's use of "when," as well as his act of releasing a statement, makes it clear that the recent talk of legal action hasn't derailed either side's plans for Texas A&M to join the league before next season.

I'm curious to see if this wakes them up and they start moving to try to pick up Rutgers or Missouri or someone

...i personally hope they stay in their little "we're fine with 12 teams, we just expanded the conference" zone

I tend to think the SEC is down to picking between WVU and Mizzou.

I get a kick out of WVU's 'culture' and they would no doubt fit into the SEC from that perspective...but I really don't see it being a close competition. Mizzou is a better school that opens up better media markets.

I just hope that Slive is not using that "leading from behind" tactic or the SEC will be left out of this game.

Pitt/Syracuse

KU/KSU

That doesn't look like an upgrade to me.

it (plus TCU) still provides stability

your initial post sounded like it was going towards a "that's it, here's where the big east fall apart(/ they're done)"

Big East has apparently contacted everyone in the big 12 save OU and Okie St to gauge interest

The founder of the Big East dies, just as the conference may die.
