Basketball-wise, it's a massive upgrade.

Hardly. And more importantly, football, not basketball, is the money engine that motors NCAA sports.

it (plus TCU) still provides stability

your initial post sounded like it was going towards a "that's it, here's where the big east fall apart(/ they're done)"

Yeah, it sounds like they have everything under control there.

ACC has approved addition of Pittsburgh, Syracuse ? USATODAY.com

According to this article it's a done deal. So the ACC has added two power basketball teams and two mediocre football teams.

Like it or not, agree or disagree, the 16 team superconference is on it's way.

The ACC is going for basketball and numbers. I've read that they have Rutgers and UCONN in their sites next.

I think it's time for the SEC to be proactive and instead of just adding A&M and maybe another they just bite the bullet and invite Mizzou and West Virginia.

I think they should also take a shot at TCU. One of the main reasons TCU was headed to the Big East was because PITT basketball coach Jamie Dixon is a TCU alum and convinced them to move to the Big East. Well their reason for joining the Big East is hot footing it to the ACC.

They'd be a positive add for the SEC, they'd give the SEC the Dallas/Ft. Worth tv market, and a 2nd foothold in the rich Texas recruiting base.

...I think you're overvaluing TCU just a bit, and I'm wondering if it's just because TCU was good last year

Possibly but how many other schools are over-valued that are in the realignment talk. I think if given a chance on the big stage, TCU could be a valuable add.

Anyone that gets added to the SEC is going to get their rear end handed to them for the first decade or so that their in the conference so I don't think it matters too much that one of them might be a little over-valued if it brings in buckets of tv cash, because really that's what this is all about.

If you're going to do it you might as well do it in style.

then why do you seem to make it appear like Mizzou is such a bad option/loss of an invite. That's pretty much exactly what they are, (save in 2 big, less split-up markets)

Also, TCU is like what, 3rd there? (and that's if they're playing well) Dallas/Ft Worth is pretty much longhorn territory (& what's not is Aggie)...I'm not sure another foothold really helps if they don't add anything to the market

unless by "bite the bullet" you meant go ahead and act first rather than "get this painful thing over with"

(feel free to correct me if i'm incorrect with regards to TCU's actual standing in that market)

I was referring to acting first. I know that there a lot of people that don't want expansion at all and I understand that but if it's going to happen I don't want 2/3 sub-par adds just to get to 16. And the only way to avoid that is to be proactive rather than reactive.

As the father of a recent TCU graduate, I guess you could call me a homer for TCU. I have a great deal of respect for what they've done as a university both on and off the field of athletic competition. They continue to upgrade their facilities (football and baseball in particular) and seem to have a plan that promotes continuous improvement.

With that behind me, let me also say I don't believe they are anywhere near being SEC worthy. Stranger things have happened...but this is one I just can't fathom.

You have to wonder though if there will be a Big 12 left for TCU to join after all the other conferences are done with them. It's already been reported that Iowa State and Baylor have contacted the Big East if the Big 12 implodes.

all i saw was baylor felt they were "a shoe-in for the big east" and iowa state could be a considerable substitute if Mizzou chose not to follow KU, KSU, etc, there

Baylor just announced they are suing Texas A&M because of the addition of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC

So UConn might move to the ACC. They are a better fit than Pitt IMO, but they will need to pick up another team. WVU could have been an option if they weren't such a ****ty school
