Those are volume stats, which are skewed to our high-play offense (opposite of analyzing our defense). We were indeed 2nd in passing efficiency. 4th in overall offense. But only 7th in rushing (note sacks are included and a good reason why), so we have room to upgrade. And we did that in spite of a so-so OL performance. It was decent, don't get me wrong. But far from elite. We have room to get much better, as Y2 in the offense will prove.
Where are you getting that info? I am going on SEC rankings.

UT was actually 2nd in rushing ypg vs the SEC. I believe this site also includes sacks... which could mean UT was actually first.

People have been discussing how we go from 40 ppg to 50. That's where it begins. That and 3rd down conversion and short yardage situations. That's on the OL to a large degree. 44 sacks (124th nationally - though tempo adjusted this is probably more like ~average) is one of our biggest weaknesses (note this offense doesn't have much afa weakness go). That would be my first upgrade point. Take fewer sacks and negative plays and that makes a huge difference in games vs Bama, UGA, UF, etc.
I agree the OL is one big area for improvement. To me, the scheme helped them a lot against everyone but those who just overwhelmed them with talent- UGA and Bama particularly. However I think significant improvement is reasonable to expect. I don't honestly think Mays was a huge positive factor last year. Both bros missed too much time.

To me, it appears that they came to a point where they essentially gave up on "depth". They went from playing 8 or more guys at WR to basically playing 4. They went from the OL coach saying they were 2 deep plus to actually playing 6 or maybe 7. It seems they just didn't have the time to get a lot of guys ready so they took a step back and focused more on getting fewer guys ready. They've now had a full offseason to fix that. Being able to coach up depth may be a test of this staff.

I know I'm in the minority, but like Small at RB. I think we are pretty good with our RBs
I like him too but he doesn't have a good top gear. Whitehead has some power and appeared to find creases but also didn't have getaway speed. The three returning guys have flaws. Wright looks mechanical sometimes but supposedly has sprinter's speed. I think we will learn to love Williams when he gets pass pro down.

This staff appears to be recruiting RB to a system profile more than previous ones. They appear to be taking "fit" over raw talent.

Sampson could be an interesting addition too. He's about the size of Tyler Badie. I would LOVE to have a guy like him in this O.

You must be counting on Small being 100% healthy all season, the other returning backs improving significantly, and at least one of the true freshmen having a standout season. That's a lot to leave to chance.

Not using volume stats, which imo is disingenuous with this offense (and defense, which looks better using efficiency figures).

Using YPC, YPA, YPP, and a few others.

Also use CFBSTATS, but wasn't using in-league stats, didn't know you were. By that we go up to 4th in rushing. But also 1st in passing(!). Still 4th overall. By no means doubting the offense ofc, it's the best thing we've seen since 2016, if not prior, but just think if we could upgrade anywhere, OL would be the most important spot, along with an elite RB. I truly believe our passing game would still be top-3 with a bunch of G5 receivers, the scheme is that good. It's so amazingly simple and yet efficient, the best of all worlds.

I like the simple effectiveness of the run scheme too. Spread the D then give the QB a simple choice and multiple lanes for the RB.

Agree essentially on both the RB and OL. Good... but if they improve then it could be even more fun.

IMO this is a great scheme with good players that could be really great. The 2016 O was great players with a ridiculous "scheme" and a moron for a HC.

I know Jabari Small added about 10lbs to his frame this off season and it appears to have all been added to his neck (blue font). But, he is coming off a season where he tried to play through a lingering shoulder injury. That's the type of injury that can easily resurface. Wright added weight as well and should have a better grasp of the offense. The issue with Wright is he doesn't have great vision, and still didn't appear to have put it all together this spring. Whitehead looked much quicker and fully healthy for the first time since he's been here this spring. The issue there is that he was still running 4th on the depth chart all spring, and we have a speed demon from Louisiana that enters the equation this summer. Williams-Thomas is the most naturally gifted of them all, and appears to have a college ready body, but how long will it take for him to learn the offense, adjust to the speed of the game, and be proficient in pass pro? Too many questions without immediate answers at the position.

Who knows what to believe about this kid, but a guy who knows things on another site says to watch Alabama on this one. I guess you really can't count them out of any recruitment when they really want a guy. Given they lost their two starting WR's to the draft and a very talented true freshman to transfer, it would seem that pairing the Biletnikoff winner with the Heisman winner for one year might have some appeal if the money is competitive.

Makes me sick to even think about it.

At least it would get Saban off his high horse about NIL (even though we all know Bama has been paying players for decades).

Delusional

Guy seems really douchey, but that was good. So delusional.

Though I simultaneously think he underestimates KJ Jefferson and the Briles offense. No, not Heisman, but not to be laughed at either.

People always used to say the Big 12 didn't play defense and the SEC did. We still do as well as anyone can, but now that their offensive schemes have infested the SEC and most are no longer playing "old man ball"...we've haven't been seeing all those multitudes of elite defenses like in the past. Hmmm...interesting...

Guys like this don't understand that elite schemes CREATE productive players. He's stuck in some old timey mindset.
