I heard we were very close to hiring him after we fired Pruitt was there any truth to that? He would’ve been a great hire IMO he’s done a great job at Minnesota winning the big ten in 2019 and winning 11 and 12 games in consecutive seasons that’s hard to do at Minnesota. I’m happy with the job Heupel is doing though but Fleck would’ve been a homerun hire.

we were close before he took the minnisotta job, and he is a fantastic coach. He probably wouldn't fit well with sec culture tho. kind of like franklin at penn state. a fish out of water.

MN has sub-par facilities and has committed to upgrades. Should spill over into recruiting. But, you have a huge cluster of mid-west and upper mid-west B1G schools and G5 schools competing for players. And for a while you could have gone to GVSU and all but choke on another D3 Natty. Time will tell, but no PJ for me either way. Given same facilities and same level recruiting, a good coach would noticeably improve over the previous staffs. A little better but not lighting up the cliches'.

Big Boy might make illini serious in a few years. Hes on the right side of the conference and his style can win there.
