Coach we had the tallest team in the country, however, smaller teams beat us because they were more physical and they gang rebound. I was a little surprised since KJH’s Missouri State team was very physical. That is one reason when you recruit, you don’t just recruit based upon the number of stars. First you have to determine the characteristics that you want your team to exhibit. I really feel that during HW’s tenure, we recruited too much on the number of stars. Individually, she recruited players who were athletic, but as a group they were not as good as they could have been. The other factor was the inability to develop the talent.Going out for a walk,,,after posting this,,,I need one.

S-L-O-W....We were 2 steps slow this season. As bad as I've seen a LV team overallCoach we had the tallest team in the country, however, smaller teams beat us because they were more physical and they gang rebound. Coach, your comment shows your belief that you are the most knowledgeable poster in this forum. What I see is many other people who are experienced in coaching (and other arenas) and have valuable insights that should not be denigrated. I think the posts of @Bballnut1952 and @Vols8086 are very pertinent to this discussion. Perhaps you should reread them with a less defensive attitude. Based on my experience of coaching girls from 8 to 18 there is significant difference in the way you approach them based upon their maturity level. Your approach would be very effective with 10-12 year olds, but with the college age, not so much. This has been very consistent in the short time I have been posting on this board.I get twice the effort when I say "give me more" than if I say, "is that all you've got"
unless you walk in my shoes,,,you can't know
Somewhere along the way we have lost our ability to have thick skin and all of these kids who want a constant pat on the back and told they can do no wrong is why we are getting soft as a society. I sure as hell hope we don't have to go to war with this up and coming generation, good grief. Somewhere a long the lines kids just need to suck it the hell up and get going or get gone. How much ridicule do you think Jarrett Guarantano has taken over the last 3 years? I'm almost willing to bet he took more crap last year than all the Lady Vols teams combined over the last 4 years, did he transfer? No, point is kids use this reasoning as a crutch or scapegoat as to why they're leaving but at the end of the day its no more than an excuse. There are some legit reasons for transfers however I miss the pat on the a$$ they got during the recruitment process and they also miss the constant reminders of how great they are when they were in high school. Lack of appreciation? come on man
Best way to have a first team AA is to build one. Players like Ruthy Hebard or Teaira McCowan weren't consensus HS All Americans, but they were coached up to become college first team AAs. We all know Holly couldn't develop players, but this is a great opportunity for Kelly to take a raw, talented player and turn her into a star.I one thing that has been missing. Is that 1st team AA aka Parker type player. What do you guys think?
Yeah I've seen him a few times, some people might buy his bs but I see right through it
I’ve got two girls and I teach them to have thick skin. And I agree this world is becoming sissified. and for you saying I hope you truly don’t coach girls, why do you only coach girls, because you can’t handle men? I don’t care about arguing with you because we apparently see a lot of things differently. I like most of your posts and agree with you some of the time.
Not yet ,but if posters keep sending out the negative about the remaining players, they may roll too.

You can rest assured that if Kellie tells them not to check out Volnation, that's just going to make them determined to see what has been posted. I agree with you, Coach, this site can be very harsh on the players at times. Everyone has an off game from time to time, that's just the nature of athletics.

sorry to barrage the responses but I had a great meal and an even better nap
We will fiind out more about Coach K in the off-season they we did during season
- what did she emphasize to each player to work on
- Will she go back and look at her own gamesmanship moves and countermoves
- will she use the unfortunate openings to bring in some future heavyweights
- Will the team show growth in the areas of weaknesses
- will she focus and acquire good future talent
Much will show in year two, teacherdean
So very much!
This was amazingly well written. Definitely needed to be said. I can assure you that they do read these. I hope they read this as well while they are at it. I applaud you, Coach.___________________________

Maybe we need to build a fanbase that appreciates our players and coaches.
Players that every college in the US would gladly take.
Players who read this crap and go to their dorm rooms and wonder why they are here.
Players whose parents read this crap and wonder if the fanbase of this university appreciates their kids.
Players who put 12 hour days into their efforts to improve.
Players who are now leaving : one with reason and one seemingly "without reason"
Players who are possibly leaving this program bc of the bashing they are getting on sites like this one.
Players have committed four years of their life to represent a fanbase that outspokenly disapproves of their lifestyle choices.
Players who have been loved by HS fans and coveted by many universities and now have to read this drivel...
Players who see that they are devalued by posters who think of them as plug-n-play commodities
Players who should be appreciated!
Players read this crap, people,, and so do Moms and Dads.
Many of you work 8 hours a day then go home to watch tv. . . I listened to a podcast of one of our players (Jordan) on Spotify and they asked her of an average day. She said she gets early (earlier in the summer) and goes to meetings,, workouts,, practices,, her own after practice workouts,, often skipping meals bc she forgets to eat bc she is so busy. Usually ending her BB day around 6PM
In the podcast she says:...
Lady Vols Freshman Jordan Horston recap of year 1. - BallNGems Got the Hoop Scope
- She says..."I don't want nothing give to me I want to work for it"
- She said she wants a real Coach. She says quote "are you going to coach me or you just going to let me do what I'm going to do" (imagine someone actually wanting to be coached)
- The thing that she remembers about recruitment is, "the person who recruited you is not the person who's going to coach you"
We have commitment from our kids to this extent and all they read is the above.
Posters, all it takes is one demeaning or degrading post to overshadow all the good ones.
An young girl once told me...
"Coach is all you see, what I do wrong,,,you never tell me what I do right"
I showed her this
View attachment 269615
and said what do you see?
She said "one's upside down"
I said, "but 24 are correct...why didn't you notice them?
As djtee said...Careful what you wish for, because you may get it and may already be getting it
Lol dude you seriously need helpIf you've seen me and I haven't seen you then that is stalking. Next time introduce yourself...I don't bite
I only coach females because I have put a lifetime into the advancement of women's sports and stay in my lane. I have many times been asked to coach males, but refused.
This is my fear, Prophet. No one knows who I know and who I talk to and no one will. I only let out about Meme because she has graduated and gone on. The negative and personal posts kids hurts these kids. I know this bc I communicate with people who know this. (And that is all I will say about it).
Posters tell me often to grow a thicker skin, , . Think on this folks...I am a coach of over 40 years, have dealt with abusive parents (Both to me and to their own children), referees and opposing fans. When I beat a team in my earlier realms I got many reactions...Parents wish their kids were coached like mine,,,Parents ask for me to coach their kids and will quit their teams immediately for it to happen,,,Parents flip me off and say abusive things bc I ran the score up or simply for beating their defenseless kids,,,etc
I say that to say this, if I at my age can still be affected by personal attacks on me, how much easier for a young woman playing in the intense competitive world of SEC BB to be affected when they have put their heart out their for a fanbase that seems to not give a damn.
I put that 25-T's thing in the OP for a reason....24 "you did a great jobs" can be discounted by one "you ain't worth a ****"
I am not trying to censor posters, I am trying to wake them up....Personal attacks and the like affect players and families. These girls and their families fully expect to get berated for bad or lack of effort performances and they love the appreciative accolades of wins, But personal and hate postings are downright wrong.
I have a strong feeling that this influenced Jazmine's decision. I don't know this, but when a public forum talks of her life-choice in abusive ways it could affect her. And yes, many of the negative posting are happening now, but many more happened before she made this decision.
I have never personally attacked any player. Yes I do mention that TK could use more offense or Rae could use more control, and the like...But never will I demean them intentionally on this forum or anywhere else.
Posters, you have a very powerful influence here in this forum. Administrations follow it, so do athletes, so do families. I know this to be true bc during the Senior night game, I went over to congratulate Lou's family after they sat down. As did many thoughtful fans before the game started. I shook their hands and introduced myself as Coach Jumper. Nicola smiled and said, "Yes, we have heard of you"...I jokingly said hope it was good things and she acknowledged by saying "nothing bad".... That is from people halfway around the world. The only way they could know of me is through this site or by Lou. And since I have not dealt with Lou, I have to consider it is by this site.
So please, think before you post, parents DO read this site.
+++++++++++++++
For those bungholes that attack me here,,,"come on a get some".
I can directly defend myself on this forum.
But, THEY, can't!
think about that
