Just got the update on my phone. First I've heard of it.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Redshirt freshman Ryan Jenkins had hoped to shake off an injury-riddled debut season with a fresh start in spring football.

But lingering injuries will keep him sidelined for spring football, which begins March 7.

Jenkins, tight end A.J. Branisel and defensive tackle Trevarris Saulsberry are all slated to miss the spring season, coach Butch Jones said.

Jenkins redshirted after dealing with persistent setbacks in his first year. He rarely practiced and spent most of time doing rehab. Jones was optimistic in December that Jenkins was improving, but offseason surgery thwarted his plan to return to the action.

A graduate of Lassiter High in Marietta, Ga., Jenkins is the son of Lee Jenkins, a UT cornerbacker from 1980-82.

Not a great start to Jenkins career. Hope he doesn't turn out to be the next Justin Meredith having to deal with constant injury.

doubt he moves - don't have a ton of depth there - we have 2 FR EE's and downs who is a SR there

so only 4 scholly TE's on the roster

We have a couple more as well. Woody Quinn and there were I think 2 guys that were moved there last year as well. But truly just 4 guys that can contribute.

I know its been said many times before but they have to move Croom to TE. He might not be physical enough with is run blocking but he would be a matchup nightmare and probably won't be seeing to much time at WR with quality of guys were bringing in.

forgot about woody - think some of those moves were desperation as opposed to permanent position changes - we'll see on that

id say AJ is definitely still in the mix for PT this fall - the 2 FR may well be 1-2 on the 2 deep - who knows - not a lot proven at that position though so hard to give up on AJ so quick

Jenkins has already been recruited over. Hate it for him. Maybe he can get healthy enough for some special teams action this fall.

This stinks..... we're at a place where we can't really afford to lose anyone. Jenkins is going to fall behind some talented newcomers if he doesn't get healthy fast. We need all the healthy/experienced bodies we can get at DT and TE.

Sucks about Trevarris Saulsberry. We really need him this year. Hopefully he will get back by fall.

He's a stud duck and will make a big difference next season...unless CBJ decides to redshirt him...doubt it.

Plus I think he is a better fighter than Dan O'Brian. lol

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this... I think Jenkins has a very good chance to get reps in the slot, if healthy this fall. He was really impressive early in camp this past year before he was injured. Besides Vic, who else did we recruit this year at the slot position?

Jonathan Johnson plays the slot as well.

No way Neiko Creamer isn't headed to TE eventually. Last I checked he weighed as much or more than Daniel Helm.

I don't remember Johnson making many intermediate or short catches last year. Jenkins is a talent, and very polished due to the HS system he played in. Hope he can shake the injuries.

Probably not gonna be playing in the league one day, but he was a reliable backup to Pig this season at a position where there wasn't a lot of depth. Had some nice catches vs. Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, and WKU. Interestingly enough, I think he developed a chemistry with Dobbs while working at 2nd or 3rd string, because Dobbs frequently targeted him along with D. Young during his starting career this season.

Anyway, agreed on Jenkins. Hope he gets healthy. Would like to see him ball out.

I. Was super excited to get Jenkins but now I do believe he should transfer. He likely won't see the field here

In my opinion, that's nonsense. He's a talented legacy player who sat out his entire first year. He's young, has nothing but time, for healing and getting back into the mix.
