"Coach said that his former coach at Purdue was his mentor & made him a man. That's what we all want in a coach. To be developed as men."

For whatever reason you think that is funny, it gets old reading some of these posters who like to act as though they are experts by their use of current lingo. It's even funnier when their analysis is dead wrong, which BTW, is most often the norm for most of our posters

4 and power forward are the same thing man. It's not him acting like an expert, he simply knows the way the positions are numbered.

Try to sound smart... Fail miserably.

No effort trying to sound smart. Don't care what you and others think. Just get sick of the overused lingo and even worse, the uninformed analysis. Harris has no chance of playing power forward in the NBA. At least not any meaningful minutes at that position

so you are saying Harris is an NBA 3. Noted

BTW, the positon is more commonly known as power forward, not "4", in the NBA

Are you serious? Keep espousing your vast knowledge of how Tobias Harris, who isn't quick enough to play the 3 in college, is suddenly going to slide in and start guarding Kevin Durant.

I am very well aware of that fact. Very few, if any, NBA coaches and analysts use the numbered format for positions

You and your crafty lingo.

I really love how the crusade has become contentiousness for absolutely no reason

Yes, you don't know what you are talking about. Tobias, WILL NOT play power forward in the NBA. Doesn't have the size.

BTW, I will stack my knowledge up against yours any day of the week. LOL

Most basketball people consider the power forward and "4" to be synonymous when referring to that position. Sorry if it was confusing for you.

It's not confusing for me. I was watching the NBA before long before you entered the planet. I was just correcting him on the lingo as used in the NBA

That doesn't make it wrong

No, it's not totally wrong, but often times the inexperienced analysis I see in this forum attempts to pigeon players to certain positions. Right now Tobias is somewhere between a wing and a power forward on a tradtional type team. If he is going to be solid contributor in the NBA it is going to be at a position away from the basket instead of closer to it. Some think he isn't quick enough. Right now, that might be the case, but quickness can be improved any number of ways. Height can't be. Tobias is as tall as he is going to get and he isn't the 6'8" he is listed.

I hope nobody is trying to pigeon OUR players. That sounds illegal and unfair!

Under Mears and DeVoe, UT used point guard, right wing(usually the shooting guard), left wing(small forward), high post(power forward) and low post(center).

I think it depends on coach, style of offense AND, most importantly, preference of coach

Now back to the players reactions. This thread has turned into 3rd graders comparing man size

I disagree 100%. He isn't big enough to play power forward. He is plenty athletic enough to play wing. His outside shooting could improve. He is nowhere near big enough or physical enough to play power forward in the NBA.

Not to be rude about it but you must have no clue what you are watching for when you evaluate a basketball player.
