Florida plays alabama before us this year. I think it is very possible we beat them this year. For years this has been in the back of my mind. I always had the theory that since we played Florida early i.e. 3rd or 4th week every year that we were at a disadvantage and here is why. Look at the teams they have played the first 2-3 games of the season the past 10 years. THEY HAVE PLAYED NO ONE! While we have played cal's, Oklahoma's, UCLA's, NCSU, Oregon's, Cincinnati.
Even though some of those teams aren't top 10. The point is you have to go out and try to win these kind of games. You can't keep it vanilla and you have to show personnel, formations, etc. Well they play Florida Atlantic and other teams where they can run ISO right all game long. Well times are changing. With us playing them later in the year I feel like it is going to level the playing field. Does anyone else agree or think this is interesting?

For the teams, probably not a big difference. Both teams have to play a schedule. For the fans.... It gives them something to talk about.... :)

Better. Obviously we can't beat them the week we always schedule them. So move them back later!

Smartest. Move. Ever.

I would say better, although it doesn't help that UF has a bye the week before.

Could be a massive national game if both come in undefeated! Couldn't say that in the last few years. Just sayin'

I like playing them later. One of the best games ever was when we played the last game of the season (make up game due to 9/11). We beat them in the swamp that year!!

Never get your hopes up about beating Florida. I can't remember how many times I've said "this is the year" only to be letdown again. Assume a loss, and when the Vols win, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Can't remember how many times some of these myths have been debunked.

When Tennessee has the superior team, they will win games.

Contrary to popular opinion around these parts, that's been rare.

Some are disputable. IMO a healthy 2011 Tennessee team could very well have been superior in talent to the 2011 Florida team. Moot point though considering having superior talent mattered very little in the Dooley era.

Well thats the great thing about America. I can keep my theory and have the freedom to do so. I think there is something to it. We see superior teams get beat alot by less superior teams. But hey lets just take a small start 99. Why don't yall just schedule a difficult team in week 1 or 2? Lets take small steps here. It would be a first for over a decade. And a decade is only as far as i looked back

probably doesn't matter,other than injury wise,which i hope isn't a factor at all,UT usually plays a tougher schedule,which i liked,i don't like watching them play the wimp teams,although i do watch all that i can :)

2002-Miami
2003-Miami
2008-Miami
2012-Texas A&M
2013-Miami

Record vs Tennessee those seasons....4-1

Three of those games were in Neyland and Florida won by an average of 20 points in those games

The odds in Vegas of that happening aren't good... FL would have to beat Bama and TN would have to be OU.....

Its not an advantage that can be exact every year for any team.
There are situations where teams peak early and fade late or vice versa. Sometimes 2 teams start and finish in opposite directions.

Yeah, 5 of 16 years. Way to challenge yourself.

Yes and in this way, it would have helped Tennessee last season as injuries to Florida were brutal.

Generally, I don't think it matters.

Alabama isn't worried about playing Florida in September. That's for sure.

Wait, didn't Miami go to the national title game in 2002, and weren't they 9-4 last year? Far from terrible. You are misinformed, on all accounts. I am pretty sure Miami was legit for all the years he stated.

2003 They finished 11-2 (ranked #5), and the 2008 team was probably the worst of the bunch at 7-6.

Still not bad.

probably so. and yes i was misinformed.
It is not so much which team is superior and what not im basing my opinion. It the gameplan. You can tell clearly florida is holding back its first two games for tennessee. If they played anyone where they had to show something then we would be better prepared. Tennessee was successful against them some of those years. So maybe my argument holds water. if the miami teams were good. maybe they showed something.

Miami is usually never an easy game home or away, early or late. They've put a couple kids in the league....just saying.
