Playing Florida later? better or worse?

Schedule a difficult team before playing Florida? Did you really even look at UT's schedule over the past few years? You said you did. Then how did you miss the games against Cal in 06 and 07 (when they were still pretty good), UCLA in 08 and 09 (not great teams, but they still scheduled games against a quality program years in advance), and Oregon in 10 and 13. Those don't qualify as games against difficult teams? Up until recently, you scheduled games many years in advance, so you had no idea how good a team would be in that particular year.

Nice try....but the "U" of the 2000s wasn't the "U" of the late 80s and 90s. They play in the "Big Least" conference. In most years, if they played in the SEC, it would be horrific.

2003 - 11-2
2008 - 7-6
2012 - 7-5
2013 - 9-4

Not the powerhouse you claim.

You can't base a solid opponent on just W/L record.

It appears from the past, that playing Florida as late as possible is probably best for the Vols, or Not? Or Not.

This year you would want to play them early, their D will be ready day one, but new OC and offensive scheme etc., may take awhile to click, they might be deadly later in the season if that talent gels, and they have oodles of talent, better get them early.

Florida plays alabama before us this year. I think it is very possible we beat them this year. For years this has been in the back of my mind. I always had the theory that since we played Florida early i.e. 3rd or 4th week every year that we were at a disadvantage and here is why. Look at the teams they have played the first 2-3 games of the season the past 10 years. THEY HAVE PLAYED NO ONE! While we have played cal's, Oklahoma's, UCLA's, NCSU, Oregon's, Cincinnati.
Even though some of those teams aren't top 10. The point is you have to go out and try to win these kind of games. You can't keep it vanilla and you have to show personnel, formations, etc. Well they play Florida Atlantic and other teams where they can run ISO right all game long. Well times are changing. With us playing them later in the year I feel like it is going to level the playing field. Does anyone else agree or think this is interesting?
this year will be a good test...

So there's the reason for 2014....we played them too late. Their O had a chance to gel.
