I agree on the pop time though. It takes out the pitcher from the equation. I'm just saying that CS% is still a worthy stat. Everyone faces the same obstacles

CS% is a pretty accurate measurement. With how many games in a season played, all outliers eg blazing fast guys, will level out. Catch and release time is everything.

They want to move Joe more to preserve his career than because of his health. Why take a few years off your franchise player's hall of fame career? McCann is not and never will be a head of the franchise player. You are being a homer. He's a top 5 catcher in the MLB , but is nowhere near Mauer in hitting ability. Mauer is just a very pure hitter. McCann also trails him defensively by a bit.

Nowhere near? Please.

Call me when McCann comes close to a batting title. They each have 4 silver sluggers, but McCann has no competition. Now that Buster Posey is in the league, he'll never see another.

Let's let Posey continue to do it and become a 5-time all star before we crown him the greatest catcher on earth.
I love watching Posey play, and hope he does do it again. So we'll see.

Other than Victor Martinez, who is Maeur's competition?

And if you but that much weight into batting average, then I don't know what to tell you.

Posey is a good player. However, he played four MLB months.

For awhile, Jorge Posada.

Batting average is not everything. Run and RBI production count too. I'm just saying that Joe Mauer is one of the most pure hitters I've seen. Smooth, natural swing.

And he outperformed McCann in his first four months in the Majors by a decent margin.

Posey- 16 HR's
Mac- 16 HR's

Posey- 56 RBI's
Mac- 59 RBI's

Posey- .500 SLG
Mac-.476 SLG

Posey- .356 OBP
Mac- .371 OBP

(Over the entire season, and this includes defense)
Posey- 3.9 WAR
Mac- 5.6 WAR

Posey- 1.09 WPA
Mac- 2.40 WPA

So Posey was better than Mac over the course of last year?

You're numbers are off according to baseball reference. Not sure what source or sample you have used.

Here are the numbers for each since Posey's first full month (June) in the majors.

Posey- 18 HR
McCann- 16 HR

Posey- 63 RBI
McCann- 59 RBI

Posey- 58 Runs
McCann- 42 Runs

Posey- .299 BA
McCann- .273 BA

Posey- .352 OBP
McCann- .368 OBP

Posey- .500 SLG
McCann- .465 SLG

Posey- .852 OPS
McCann- .833 OPS

Posey- .37 CS%
McCann- .30 CS%
Note: I know CS% isn't a great stat but there isn't much out there to to judge a catcher's defense.

WAR does not include defense when evaluating catcher (although it does for all the other position players) and Posey missing the first two months of the season makes WAR useless in this comparison.

WPA is also skewed due to Posey missing two months.

Yes, Posey was better than McCann over the four full months he was in the Majors. McCann's only edge is in plate discipline and although OBP is a big deal, it isn't a big enough difference in numbers to offset everything else that Posey does better.
