I sure would like some of the Bammers to drill down into the pecking order on special teams and find that this was a Butch Jones blunder. I'd send him a whole box of cigars!!!

He makes much more than that. Only 35k comes from Bama.. But you knew that. Seriously... The audacity and F..U to UT for even putting Butch on the staff at that price as an "intern". If there is a chance that they put him in charge of the punt receiving team (he actually handled special teams his self in Knoxville), and he probably told Saban he could do it (only after he fetched Saban's coffee), then karma rules. You get what you pay for.

Butch isn't a coach, can't be on headset, and isn't responsible for any substitution at all. It's really funny, but it's incorrect.

Actually, they had their punter on the field as the wide receiver on the left side of the formation. The rest of their players, including Nix were the regular offense.

Saban's complaint boiled down to "the referees should have given us more time to substitute twice because Bama".

A Tideinsider poster said that it's ironic that Saban has tried to have Bama look like a team that plays on Sundays, only to get best by a play run in Friday nights. The chinks in Saban's armor are showing, outcoached by Swinney, Ogeron, and now Malzahn.

That's exactly what he was saying. And why he was upset. He got outcoached. Now that it's been a couple of days and seeing the media roast him and fans online roast him I feel he's really pissed because everyone thinks he looks like a freakin moron!! He and his mighty Bama staff with all that money and resources got tricked by a pee wee football play. And it worked!!! So it's credible now on his dime. Lmao!!! Freak bammer.

I have to wonder if this is the “beginning of the end” for Bama dominance. The SEC is getting stronger after a few down years:

UGA is rolling right now and will be a top 5 team again next year and plays Bama in week three next year
Florida just had back to back 10 win seasons with Cousin Eddie
Auburn has won 2 out of the last 3 Iron Bowls and is recruiting solidly with QB set for the next 3 years
LSU is about to make their playoff debut and win the league
Tennessee is suddenly bowling and trending up

Bout to get real in the SEC

Exactly right. Bama had time to substitute. That’s how they got the punt returner out there. The refs didn’t give them extra time for a second substitution once they realized Auburn was lined up to run a trick play and Bama shouldn’t have gotten extra time. Great move by Gus and it caused Bama to make the mistake.

I hope he doesn't retire before we get another shot at him next year.

Just like what happened with the Bear at Bama and Spurrier at Fl, would love for his last game against UT to be a loss. and yes that is my early prediction...

Just think, Bama finally gets taken down again in Neyland at the hands of Pruitt and Fulmer is the guy who hired him away. And with any luck, Jones is on their sideline.

In my world, then he would have permission to retire.

How much time do you get for substitutions these days? I remember Saban went on a tirade about something similar during the Oregon/Chip Kelly days.

The way I heard someone explain...And they could be wrong. Auburn subs.. ref stands over ball.. Alabama subs... Ref moves off ball now... Auburn shifts player to different position. Alabama freaks and tries to sub again. Flag flew.

So what they said was, if Auburn subbed twice, Alabama would get to sub twice, but Auburn didn't - they just had two players change position.
