Probably not the first time that this rant has been posted, but I'm so sick of seeing 15 to 18 yard returns when taking a knee will always get you 25... Every time I see this I get the almost uncontrolable urge TO PUKE IN MY HANDS, RUB IT ALL OVER MY BODY AND GET ON THE GROUND AND ROLL AROUND!!!!!! Thanks for listening, and have a nice day.

You know it's not the first time because you commented on it before starting this thread.

And add a block in the back or hold and we can start at the 9.

I believe that most of us feel that way, but I just don't see Butch telling him to take the knee. While it's the smart thing to do (almost every single damn time), Butch is not going to act like he doesn't believe in his team or DY's abilities.

If CBJ is not going to tell DY to take a knee and DY is insistent on running it out, then at least the coaches should tell him to run it out to the perimeter on a slant or get creative.

As if this description wasn't sick enough, your name is "fatvol." I'm going to go throw up now except like a normal human it will be in the toilet.

I actually had this debate with some buddies while we were at the UT v. Arkansas State game. They like the threat of a runner who can bring the ball out and they believe the risk of not getting to the 25 is worth the reward of the possibility of getting 6.

Somewhere in my stack of books is an interesting statistical analysis about running it out versus taking a knee in the end zone. After looking at years of data, the authors concluded (if memory serves) that at almost any level of football the most proficient thing to do is to take the touchback. In fact, I believe that the most risky thing that a team can do is try to run it out. Not only is it statistically unlikely to reach the 25, but the likelihood of a turnover is actually greater than scoring 6 points. The conclusion is simple, regardless of anything else, the play that will be the most likely to result in a benefit for the team, and thus skewing the outcome in your favor, is to take the touchback and go to work on offense.

These studies are the same ones that conclude that in almost any situation the ideal thing is to go for it on fourth down, with very few exceptions. Having discussed that here before, I am certain that most people here hate that idea.

1. Chill
2. Why should we roll over and say we're not good enough to return the ball past the 25? Screw that.

Don't watch it then. I like the excitement when a receiver takes it from 5 yards in the EZ out to the 10-20-30-50, whatever. Makes the game exciting.

3 games into the season I don't think I have seen a single return make it past the 30 and most don't even make it to the 20.

That isn't exciting.

well they could put Sutton on the kick offs and Devrin Young on the punts, that would take care of 2 problems at once

DY is 3rd of all time returners with over 100 returns behind Willie Gault and Leonard Scott. That being said in their time the ball was brought to the 20 vs 25 now. I also like taking a knee early if it's in the EZ. As the game plays out it may justify taking a chance. Also there are more penalties on KO and punt returs % wise than other facets of the game. In fact our only penalty we had entire game vs OU was a tripping penalty on KO making us start at the 10.

Never once has DY fielded one and thought he was gonna break loose..

I agree if Devrin is deep. He has not proven to be a break away threat yet. When he came or UT I thought he would be our version of Jeff Demps but has not panned out. It is time to try Vic Wharton.

Why does every team the Vol's play seem to kick the ball through the end zone and the Vol's kicker puts the ball where it's returnable? I'd love to have a kicker who consistently kicks the ball through the end zone, where it's not returnable!
