Points Changes Might Be Coming

I don't have a problem with that system. It would tighten things up and make gaining a few positions more important in the grand scheme of things. Then things like leading a lap, leading the most laps, and winning the pole suddenly become more important as well.

Oh, and taking the top 10 for the Chase and then adding the two drivers not in the top 10 with the most wins is a positive as well IMO. Make them race for wins and race for every position on the track. I can see how some may be put off by this but I see it as a big positive if this is the path they go down.

Why would they scrap a system that literally just gave them the most entertaining finish to the chase ever and going back many years earlier?

I do like the elimination rounds idea mentioned though.

In a sport where mechanical failure is a factor, I don't see a need to run a 43 race schedule to have a blown motor send someone home in an "elimination race".

What does it matter? At seasons end, it will still be the same driver holding up the trophy as it has been the last five years.

Does Jimmie eyebrows Johnson and his dominance play a role in this potential change

You'd think. Matt Kenseth only had to win the championship once before they blew it up.

Any change that doesn't involve ditching the Chase is pointless. Guys can still putter around and be the 10th or 11th best driver through the first 26 races and still be just about even with guys who went out and won a lot in the first 26.

If you read the article, it was talking about an elimination round within the chase. Not the regular schedule. Think race 5 where several drivers are on the verge of being mathematically eliminated. Would make sense to officially count them out and focus on the cars left. JMO

yep. any system that DOESN'T reward drivers for winning races isn't worth exploring. they already have one.

I don't see the point in eliminating rounds for the chase either, the drivers take care of that when they fall 200 points out of the lead 3 races in.

If this new point system of starting with 43 points for the winner and dropping one point per position is implemented, there needs to be a winner bonus, or the value of a win is no greater than finishing in any position as far as the relative margin over second place.

Regarding our Pick'Em contest, this proposed system would make the processing easier for me, and would keep the standings closer numerically. However, I would have to make adjustments to the bonus structure including the pole winner bonus. Otherwise the bonus points could total the same race position points for about two drivers. This would give too much value to the bonuses relative to the regular picks.

NASCAR is becoming a joke.....if it ain't broke......the point system wouldn't be my first concern

I like it,,,if there are 43 cars, you award 43 pts to the big winner in desending order to 1 pt for last....simplifies all for fans and drivers. will still have bonus points for leading, etc
