Pole Winner - Topeka, Kansas

then we should count whoever gets the pole due to a rain out.

but then you aren't actually qualifying. You are basing it off of previous results. Johnson was the fast in the qualifying session for this race that qualified under the rules.

I'm actually kind of surprised you would use that reasoning... Any chance you're just mad that so many picked Johnson while you didn't get a vote in? :p

it's no different. either way, you don't earn it. it's given to them because of rain, pole winner wrecks in practice, or has his time disallowed.

for example, if JPM wrecked and could not use the car, he would be forced to start in the back with a 2nd car. Johnson would start from the pole.

this is no different.

perhaps you are serious. but I can't buy the fact that Johnson didn't earn it. Having the polesitter forced to use a backup car and getting the actual pole position start is totally different than being the fastest LEGAL car.

yes, i am serious. he didn't earn it. it was given to him through another teams stupidity/cheating/whatever the reason for the illegal move.

really, it's up to whatever broyles decides. it's not like the points are going to affect me since i'm not going to win anyway.

i do hate Jimmie Johnson, still, though.

I would think the points would have to be rewarded to those that picked JJ.
Qualifiying was held and JJ won the pole with the fastest(legal)car

it was given to him through someone else's mistake or cheating, though. he didn't earn anything.

The people that picked Jimmie Johnson to get the pole should get 20 points. He earned the pole by qualifying the fastest without cheating. And yes, I picked him. :)

I can see doozer's point re a pole sitter crashing his car in practice and having to go to the rear of the field.

I can see how those who picked J. Johnson want the 20 points. I am not one of them by the way.

The difference I think is that when a car crashes, or the engine gets changed and the car has to go to the back, it did qualify legally on the pole. The 42 car's time was actually disallowed, and starts at the back by virtue of car owner points.

The qualifying lap turned by the 42 car basically doesn't exist any more, so I see no other choice than to consider J. Johnson the pole sitter. If TennFan doesn't see it differently, then 20 pts. will be awarded to those who picked the 48 car.

To all those who had #48-Congrats! You try to run soemthing past NASCAR officials and they'll catch you just about every time. Shame on #42 (Montoya)!

Congrats to all that picked JJ! Rbroyles, Check your yahoo email.

I fixed your statement. Now it makes sense.

please do not attempt to speak for me anymore. thank you.

i think the best way to decide it is this:

if NASCAR gave JJ the bonus points for the pole, then it should also be awarded to those who picked him. but if he was not awarded the bonus points, then those who picked him shouldn't be given the points either. i think this is the fairest way.

Rbroyles has spoken. It has already been decided. Nothing more to decide. Doozer Loses!

I never knew Nascar to give bonus points for the Pole. Does anyone else know this?
