Police Get Help With Confronting Veterans

Does this statement disturb anyone else:

"We just can't use the blazing-guns approach anymore when dealing with disturbed individuals who are highly trained in all kinds of tactical operations, including guerrilla warfare," said Dennis Cusick, executive director of the Upper Midwest Community Policing Institute.

I mean, should the blazing guns approach be the mentality of our police regardless of whether the suspect is a vet or not?

Due to the limited intellect of the majority of police officers, I think that's really all we can expect.

No, it shouldnt be the approach. I believe the intent with the article refers to interaction, still poor choice of words.

I think the majority of cops are decent people. I think the minority that aren't cause a lot of the troubles.

My biggest problem with the majority is that they appear to stand behind the minority, or at least they don't seem to stand up against them.

My second biggest problem is the hypocrisy. I hate getting passed by a speeding cop only to see him pull someone else over for speeding.

I have my own personal litmus test to determine if a cop is a honest guy or a hypocritical scum. You can learn a lot from one question:

Have you ever pulled over a fellow police officer, on duty or off, and given him a ticket for a traffic violation?

However, all of that aside. I don't think that most of them are blood-thirsty Dirty Harry types. There are some though...

Stand behind the minority?

Not in all cases, certain responses do not require emergency equipment to be activated.

Why is your litmus test limited to a ticket to another leo?

If Joe is out speeding at 2am and gets pulled over and ticketed for what we presume are public safety reasons, then we can understand that.

If Officer Joe is out speeding at 2am and gets pulled over, confirms he is a cop and the officer who pulled him over lets him go, then we can assume that he is letting him go in spite of the hazard that individual caused to public safety.

That is hypocrisy and playing with the safety of the rest of us. The law should be applied equally and fairly. When it is not it proves that a) the law is not really important and we only enforce it when we want to, or b) some people are "more equal than others".

You can tell if a cop is truly interested in the purpose of being a cop, protecting the public, if he acts in a manner consistent with that. Letting someone flaunt public safety laws just because of who is his, tells me that protecting his buddy or fellow officer is more important than protecting the public.

I understand that it is not a be-all end-all. I just think it serves as a useful rule of thumb. I got it from this:

Luke 16:10
“ He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.

Fair enough

I expected more ignorance and stupidity in this thread. Bamacheats put up a valiant effort, but a little disappointing.
