I was watching ESPN today and they had a segment on teams of "destiny." The discussion was between Merrill Hodge, Herm Edwards, and Bill Polian. There were mixed reviews as to whether or not teams of "destiny" actually exist.

In our 1998 BCS Championship run, one could argue that we were a team of 'destiny' (in fact, there is a video about our season called DesTiny), as we ended up needing a last second kick to beat Syracuse, a missed OT FG by Gators kicker Collins Cooper, and a heads-up fumble recovery from Clint Stumbler with a subsequent TD to put the game away late on a comeback. Things just happend to go our way that season, ergo, 'destiny.'

This season, Auburn has had some ridiculous things happen to them to end up winning games at the last second and are playing tonight for the NC, their 2nd appearance in 3 years. Three years ago, Auburn needed the no-call (which was correct) on Michael Dyer not being down and ultimately scoring a TD, and this year, well, you all know what's gone their way this year vs UGA and Bama (which was glorious, btw).

So, the simple question is: Do you believe in teams of destiny? Are there teams that are literally meant to win? Or, do you believe that it all comes down to luck, and being on your game to take advantage of opportunities, be they sometimes so small that they're not always seen? (Like Dyer's TD run 3 years ago).

State your cases below and enjoy the game tonight, whichever team you're pulling for.

I believe in teams of misfortune, in which the 2010 Tennessee Vols are king.

i absolutely believe in teams of destiny. if you look at every champion in college football they all have a couple games they win that make no sense. somewhat applicable to other sports, but it seems the most obvious to me in football, even the nfl....both giants super bowls...ravens last year...etc

I remember it like yesterday when Nick Marshall completed that pass against Georgia. The thought of this Auburn team could be destined to win it all crossed my mind that weekend. I wasn't fully convinced until the clock hit 0.0 against Alabama. Everything that happened, happened, including OSU falling to Sparty. I believe Auburn wins by double digits tonight. They have been underdog in there past six games and we have saw what has happened. We were a team of destiny in 98, there is no question about that.

i have a feeling fsu will win and that they are indeed legit. i am hanging my hat on what the defensive side of the ball did against clemson.

having said all that, if fsu loses people should have seen it ahead of time. they have beaten one team worth a damn. 1.

while auburn's season may have included a lot of good fortune. it also saw a team improve week after week against quality competition.

fsu was never challenged. not all their fault. after all, my gators didn't really help their strength of schedule. but, it's the reality.

it's a classic matchup we see all the time. dominant team that beat up on a bunch of turds vs. a team that struggled all season long, is battle tested, and finds or creates ways to win.

again, my gut says fsu is the real deal despite their schedule. but, if auburn punches them in the mouth and fsu gets exposed, i would not be surprised.

WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!!!

I understand what you're saying and tend to agree, but I don't see how that would be the case for FSU. Unless of course the game tonight works out that way. They have had a pretty dominant season this year.

you won't believe in one either after you watch what "Blameless" Jameis does to the Barn tonight.

How was the Reds pulling Tretiak "destiny"?

We forced the Soviet's coach to make a strategic decision that actually effected the match, something he frankly had not had to do in a very long time! He saw that Tretiak was struggling so he yanked him. Was it a hasty move? Possibly but we'll never know will we? Who knows? Had he left Tretiak in there we may have won the match by 3 goals instead of one!

After reading up on the history of that hockey team and seeing the movie "Miracle" a couple of things that were eye-opening to me that I really didn't know at the time those games were going on...

1.) The road the US Hockey team took to get where they were when we played the Soviets that day! How grindingly hard Herb Brooks coached those young men day in and day out to the point to where they were such a well oiled machine by that time.

2.) Despite being so young, just how incredibly talented that team was! Jim Craig was a man playing outside of his own body that day! The USSR just could not get the puck past him!
