It seems everyone is stuck on Martin being gone, but with financial difficulties I do not know how possible that will be. That is neither here nor there. However, after looking at current football and basketball teams I realized that there seems to be next to no schools that excel consistently in both basketball in football. It seems the annual contenders in football seem to be mediocre to terrible in basketball. And the annual basketball contenders seem to be average at best in football.

So which would you prefer?

I'm sorry, what's the question?

Edit: read it again. If you're asking which sport I'd rather see UT excel in? F basketball.... does that answer it? We're a football school, plain and simple. That being said, there's absolutely no reason why we can't play for SEC championships in both sports consistently.

So just a question for discussion: If our football team becomes successful in the near future, would we complain less about our basketball team? Because based on what I feel responses will be this may be the case.

the current top-25 for men's bball contains quite a few traditional football powers. Each school doesn't get an allotment of success to divvy up between programs. I prefer them all succeed

I like to see the bball team win. But if we were a contender in football I couldn't care less what the bball team did

As a UT fan I want both to be successful. However, I feel the mediocrity in football makes the basketball situation worse. I feel Martin is an average to above average coach, but enter the school at an unfortunate time. Because we are hungry for any victory, and football isn't providing it, so we look for other areas. If it was 5 years from now Martin would be perfectly fine. imo

A basketball team and football team that win national championships every year.

Since we are creating silly scenarios I created my own.

Dumb poll.

I don't really care much about basketball. Of course, I used to care, during the Pearl years, but it's very easy to stop caring now that we aren't very good anymore. I think that's the problem the AD really needs to address. They need to put a good product out there, because it's very easy for our fans to stop caring about basketball and then, that's a huge source of lost revenue.

Weren't we top 10 in the country in basketball attendance throughout the Pearl years and on into last year (though it has been dwindling)? Seems like those days might be gone and that is alot of money the AD is just letting go by not putting a better product out there.

1) I prefer Butch Jones to continue to recruit at a very high level and get us back to a top ten program.

2) I prefer Bruce Pearl to be hired as the new Tennessee basketball coach. Why? Because he will have the basketball program top ten too.

*Both can be achieved if both things happen.

**an exception will be made for hiring Rick Byrd from Belmont. He could win BIG at UT!

It is entirely possible to have high performing teams in football, basketball, track, golf, etc, etc. Not sure why UTK has fallen off on track as that used to be one of the perennial contenders for SEC championships. We have the facilities for every team to be very competitive, we just need to continue to recruit at a high level.

As much as I dislike them, Ohio State is doing a pretty good job at doing both. That's just the first school that comes to mind. Another very much disliked team, Florida is doing a pretty good job. Guess the point is you can excel at both if the commitment is made. We're just down right now.

I prefer both like Florida and Ohio State have had in the recent past. I don't really care that much for BBall to be honest but having a competitive program is good for the overall health of the AD and therefor the football team as well.

Sort of like, do you want to be shot, beheaded, or drowned...not a great voting choice. I want Top 10 across the board.

I would give up every win in the history of UT Basketball's future to just beat Bama next year on the football field.

Does that answer your question?

You don't have a selection I can choose. I want top 10 annual football and basketball teams.
