Jump in your time capsule to a several weeks, or few months ago.

Be honest now, be perfectly honest. The Vols had lots of question marks going into the season. The DL was supposed to be a stronghold and they have been, so far. No one knew about the secondary and linebackers. We knew they had more depth at LB and secondary, but no one knew how they'd perform.

OL was projected to be a strength, but they have underperformed big time with the penalties (many questionable) and plenty of whiffs to go around.

Nico, coming into his Freshman (eligibility) season, with just the bowl game start under his belt. Had a great game against Iowa, especially with his legs, but didn't light the world on fire through the air. So, outside of the hype that surrounds him, he is still a wait and see, if we're being honest.

Did you all think UT would be sitting at 5-1 headed into the Bama game? After a neutral site game with what was advertised as maybe the best the ACC had to offer, on the road at Oklahoma, and Arkansas, then UF, with a Freshman QB and plenty of other question marks?

Nope. I'll admit to being completely wrong. I thought we'd have losses to both OU and UF at this point in the season. I also had bama and uga as losses for an 8-4 season. That was before seeing our offense against legit SEC competition as well as seeing what UK and Vandy were like. Still think 8-4 is about right, but I can also see a path to 6 or 7 wins, too. Gonna depend on how much growth we get from the offense and those injuries. Get the wrong injury or two and this season can turn sour in a big hurry.

I would’ve said 5-1 to 4-2 at this point. We got a little bit of false hope by piling up points against inferior competition.

To be honest, I thought we would be 6-0. But, I try not to be a NegaVol. I did think we would be 10-2.

5-1 was my thought just because Nico is a freshman. I thought the defense would be a bit worse and offense a bit better.

I thought 6-0. The potential of 5-1 was certainly there, but it wasn’t to Arkansas

Here is perhaps a more pertinent question...... How many of you would have dreamed of having so little faith in the team if you were told we would be 5-1 at this point? It is the looming schedule and what appear to be difficult to correct issues on O line and thus QB play that have many of Volnation unsettled.
This. The record looks good, the offense looks bad, the remaining schedule looks tough. I can’t linger in celebration of the 5-1 record and an overtime victory vs Florida while the house around us is on fire.

Like many others, I had us at 5-1 as well with the loss being either OU or Florida...didn't figure on the road game head scratcher at Arky.
2nd half of our schedule is harder then the first, so figured we would go 5-1 first half and likely 4-2, possibly 3-3, in second half (I had the head scratcher loss in the 2nd half of the season).

I've always had this team at 8-4 or 9-3 with a very outside chance of making the CFP.

No I didn't think Tennessee would be 5-1. I thought they would be 6-0

Def thought 5-1 with a heartbreaking loss to Florida. OU hasn't been the same since Venables took over and I thought Pittman would've been fired by week 6 this season. Good for him, our OL was incredible when he was here

Arky is highly overlooked by opponents and much better than the record indicates. They have shot their season on turnovers. In between turnovers, they play strong ball and have a legit QB IMO. So, yeah, that was an unexpected loss. I predicted UT at 2 losses on the regular season to Bama & UGA. The way Bama is playing, that may not be such a tough game. The weekly expectation for perfection seems lost on the new staff. OK is a bit of a surprise right now. They must have some serious internal coaching issues, cause they definitely have blundered on having a OK quality QB in the room.

I think UT has held back on baptizing Nico in the SEC fire. I think it's time to turn him loose and see what we get. If not for Sampson, we might already be tickling 3 losses. And thats not a scenario you can maintain the course of a season.

My prediction is the balance of the season will be a direct reflection of the D. The D that smothered OK and NC State is not the same D that played AR & FL. If the aforementioned D can show up every week here on out, the only predictable loss would be UGA, and even then we could win that game. But, we gotta get rolling cause I would have never predicted we go 4 quarters without a score. And our entire approach is to hit heavy and fast in Q1, and that has not been the case.

Being a 59 year old coach of observations, I think it'd go a long way in the locker room for some defensive leaders to call out the offense and get them fired up and in the right frame of mind.

I predicted 12-0.

12-0 would certainly be achievable with this team if Nico just played average. Just 220 yards passing 1 TD. He’s been below average that past 3 SEC games.

We’re not beating Bama or UGA until he gets better

Yes, I actually thought we would drop either Florida or Oklahoma on the road. Didn't see the Arkansas loss coming. Still glad we're 5-1 with glaring OL issues. Outside of the DL, had no idea our defense would be this good.

I was leaning towards Oklahoma, I thought they would be better. Arkansas and Florida were trap games for me and we stepped on one of them and almost another. How we have played has shocked me (and not necessarily positively). I never expected offense to be this bad.

I remember being a little worried about the OL backups during spring and also fall camp but thought I was overreacting at the time. They've got some work to do to say the least. Speaking of Oklahoma I thought Johnson looked decent out there but I don't think I've seen him since? Might be worth exploring at LT or maybe he's just that bad in practice?...
