Pons had great game

Pons will have to reinvent his game to play in the NBA. Not many opportunities there for 6’-5” post players. He certainly has the athleticism. His play this year compared to last proves he’s capable of tremendous improvement. Gotta develop perimeter skills

Pons, at this point isn’t skilled enough for the NBA but his athletic ability is unquestionable. If he were 3-4 inches taller and was about 15 pounds heavier he would be a NBA player, similar to Dwight Powell. With today’s performance however I bet more scouts watch him more closely this next year. Continue to improve his ballhandling (a lot), overall perimeter skills and shooting...he may surprise us. Defensively and with his shot blocking he is a difference maker.

Pons is very similar to Andre Roberson. Roberson made a good amount of money in the league, but it always seemed like the Thunder were playing 4 on 5 on offense. I usually say a guy should leave early if he can get drafted, but I really think Pons needs another year to polish his game. I would love to see Pons add another post up move (a spin), work on his faceup game, and add a crossover move to get by defenders similar to Hubbs.

I will not call people out by name but they have been on Pons about how bad he is. He had a great game today and competed for the entire game. Anyone that does not realize how far he has come and how good of a player he has become is an idiot.
So name them names dude. I regularly ---daily--- check out VN and I've seen little if any severe criticism of Pons. Give some examples --and please more than one or two strays.

That 3rd year with Barnes jump, like Bone, Admiral, Kyle and even Grant. The players that can handle the hard coaching and have that drive/work ethic thrive in the 3rd year. It happens sooner to guys like Grant, but that's been Barnes MO at Tennessee. I bet Josiah explodes next year, he's more like Grant. If Gaines and Pember make it 3 years here, they will be very productive SEC players. Same for Vescovi, ON and UP. The future is bright.

I'm all over the place tonight. I love weed. But, yeah Pons will probably end up being drafted, especially after his senior year, if he continues to improve his weaknesses. With his body and improving 3-pointer, he is starting to remind me of a more athletic Admiral. I wouldn't be shocked if somebody took a flyer on Pons in the 2nd round this year, if he came out. But, he really should come back, but I said that about Bone. Although I still think Bone could have played himself into a guaranteed money 1st rounder, but he is getting paid anyway and thriving. All right, I'm going to bed before I right a book

He's getting better during the season. He missed the front end of a one-and-one again, and then knocked them down later. He had missed a lot of the front ends this year.

He was leaping out of the gym on head fakes. Now he's more patient.

He has been too quick at settling for 3s. Especially after making one or two. He's maybe getting more selective.

Pons can make short range shots look easy at times.......but he has the athletic ability and the jumping prowess to take it to the basket, instead of settling for fall away jumpers.

The short jumpers.....maybe 40, 50%.....the dunks or layups maybe 80, 90%......Pons the ball is calling you.....it wants to go home......”take it” to its home.

Pons might not have his back to the basket game down yet. He seems to be facing the basket a lot when he's in the paint. When he plays guard he'll have lots of opportunities to post up smaller, less athletic defenders. Maybe he had some of those versus Kansas, but he seems to get a lot of points down low turning to the basket rather quickly. I doubt that many defenders can stop him when there are clear outs down low and if he can get really good at kicking out to teammates on the 3PL when he's doubled defenses may not have many answers.

A lot of nba guys are talking like he could be gone after this year. For his sake I hope he gets a good grade and can go make money, but for the team’s sake another year could be what we need to put us over the top. Springer,Johnson, and walker are great players but add in a veteran pons and the team goes from young and talented to just flat out talented.

For Pons’ sake, I hope he stays another year to continue to develop his game under CRB and gets a degree. He’s not as good as Admiral who was a second rounder and didn’t get a guaranteed contract.

It was a good game. Not a great game. Those last two shots he took in the last minutes of the game were terrible. He tried to go straight up over the big fella and then shot a fade away with their PG on him. He's vastly improved each year. Those two shots were reflective of his inexperience in the game. If his improvement continues to trend upwardly, he'll be a beast of a role player next year
