Penn & Teller's show demonstrated some stats showing high correlation between the availability of pornography and drops in sexual crimes.

That was 52 years ago.
Yeah, I know, but I still hear anti-Catholic preaching from 3 of the last 4 churches I've attended and even had pamphlets distributed during the last election that outlined "problems" with different candidates. On the list of problems was "Catholic"... these were fairly evangelical churches so I thought it would translate down south.

This. If you take away a perverts distraction, he's more likely to act out his fantasies. There's an arguement to be made that porn helps some control their urges and therefore less likely to commit an actual crime.
Meh... actually closer to the opposite. Overrated. Nobody up to that point had made mention about them personally "buying" porn. The discussion up to that point was mostly about the assertion that porn breaks up marriages and should be used to raise revenue.
