Where are you getting the notion that all the players are down on next year’s team? Seems made up
I was on vacation last week and haven't been on the checked in to what's going on, but every time I get a chance to see what's going on it seems like there are a bunch of chicken littles posting.

Because it is. The Legion of The Miserable, NegaVols, and Trolls wept and rejoiced when we lost to Ohio State. Finally given their opportunity, they began furiously typing out their fan fiction as “rumors”. Just a lot of dumbasses who can’t wait to spread their misery to others via their keyboards.

People buying into the “everyone is jumping ship, including possibly Nico!” hysteria is insane. This is a repeating cycle of doom and gloom that happens around here every year, and it’s really quite comical. In fact, it’s basically the same plot on repeat. We end the season not where we’d like (SEC Champs and/or Natty) and several players enter the portal. Meanwhile, we aren’t making huge, splashy portal buys, so everyone assumes Heupel and company are sitting in Knoxville, cigars in hands, scratching their asses and watching Christmas movies instead of recruiting the portal. Then the “insiders” start coming out of the woodwork saying all these things like “well my sources say [insert big coach name here] is going after [insert major player here]” or, my favorite, “well my sources say [insert major player here] is thinking of bolting”.

Then what happens? Absolutely nothing. We lose a few players, most of them are players who played a few snaps and maybe made some big plays here and there, but ultimately they won’t be missed. Every now and then there is a bigger name, but eventually we learn that guy was a culture issue in the locker room, so he actually won’t be missed. We then go into the portal, snag some quality guys and then we’re all singing the coaches’ praise come spring practice. Then fall comes around, we armchair QB several games likes we’re playing NCAA 25, and repeat the cycle of doom and gloom. Personally I can be guilty of it at times, but man there are a few of you in here that are ridiculous.

If you're not in a full-blown panic yet, you're not a true Vol fan. You can turn your Vol card in on your way out.

I should warn you; the lobby empties you out on a Vandy fan board.

Who are our best players who entered the portal? Squirrel? I had a lot of high hopes for him and I know he was hurt this year, but squirrel doesn't do what this offense requires. He can't block. And he's not as explosive as Peyton or Velus was here. Even in the year where he has 800 yard he had 2 TDs. I think Jenkins should have stayed, but outside of that we should be ready to roll next year.

All that said it would be nice if we landed a big splash in the portal.

Do we have a quality OL Coach or OL ? I don't believe we do. I think we have some players but are they being developed properly. I would lean towards no because there is not a single starter we recruited from HS starting. WRs, we have little to no production. Squirrel got worse, Bru got worse and not many can get open. These are the things I am referring to. Yes Heupel has voached Elite offenses. His best came with the help of Golesh and we haven't seen the creativity here since.

So yes there are reasons to evaluate who we have developing and coaching. Do you think elite kids will keep coming if our best players transfer out ? It doesn't look good when you have your hand selected QB listening to other offers with valid concerns

Have a good night. Hopefully it all works out. Ohio State was a train wreck. Would prefer we get better everywhere including staff than having these conversations. I like Heupel however he needs to make some adjustments obviously. He has done a good job from where we started with him. But to take the next step we need to keep players and change a few things.
Again….

WE HAVEN’T LOST ANYONE WE REALLY WANTED TO KEEP

Nope. You know I’m not a fan of either.

Easy position to upgrade. 2-3 in the portal that are better. I’ve already explained why with their SEC stats. You can go through the post history and read.

It is what it is.

Glad we’re gonna keep Nico though, it looks like.
Lewis has the potential to be very good for us. Bishop isn't a bad back, but I agree he's not electric, like some backs. He's solid, but not "special".

I'm mildly concerned with all the WRs we are losing, but, really we aren't losing a whole lot of production. Let's go pick up a stud from the portal and get those young ballers some playing time. Focus on improving line of scrimmage.
