One of these teams still playin or recently played gotta have a decent 2nd stringer that wants to compete for a starting gig and doesn’t see it happening there, and right now we got an open competition with only 2 rbs that been in the program a year already.I'm wondering where we go for RB now that the SD kid is off the board. Other than the top 2, who I doubt we purse, the rest seem kind of meh. I'd almost roll the dice with the freshmen rather than take one just to take one.
Not sure if there’s any interest, but Coach Sims follows Tye Edwards on Twitter. He’s a RB from Northern Iowa
6’4, 230
1022 yards rushing, 6.4avg
This is probably the funniest thread I have read on here lolThere's a thread in the Around the NCAA forum about this kid's 2023 arrest.
A few of the comments are pretty good.
I'll just leave this right here
That's one big running back.
I think some schools wanted him as a LB or rush edge.
According to this, we offered him in 2018?
So did several other big time programs.
But will they be competing for a starting gig? The suggestion is we're looking for more of a role player at RB, which quite honestly, I don't understand. Bring in the best you can and let him compete. If that angers some players already on the roster, oh well. Playing time should be earned, not divvied out according to seniority. Either you're okay with competing or you don't belong on the team. All quality teams that I believe still have at least a business day or two for portal entries and more if they are still playing.
Need to give the same shpeel as others who do it well. Stock pile talent, less wear and tear, better results. Be a cog in the machine that knows how to run and pass block and get to the league. We were there 2 years ago. Maybe the increase in NIL investment will help. RB is actually the position I might be least concerned about. That and DLine. But will they be competing for a starting gig? @Ericvol2096 Do you see Tennessee doing anything in the porthole soon?Need to give the same shpeel as others who do it well. Stock pile talent, less wear and tear, better results. In due time. Coaches have publicly committed to it. They’ll do what they have to.@Ericvol2096 Do you see Tennessee doing anything in the porthole soon?
Are you guys keeping things closer to the vest after the Northwestern OL deal?
Fwiw, and I’m not trying to put too much stock in rankings and ratings, but if you agree that these ratings in large numbers are a decent barometer of overall roster talent, and take 247 as an example, the best teams are averaging 89/90+ per player for top 15 class, 90/91+ for top 10, and the elites are averaging 92/93+ for recruiting classes. If you use their same ratings for the transfer portal, only one team’s transfer haul is rated a 90 or above and just barely. Now maybe a high school 90 is not the same as a transfer 90, but it would suggest that the best transfer hauls, while some are pulling in starters, are generally averaging out as top 15 worthy starters and top 5 depth pieces.
All that to say, here comes the opinion: you can patch holes and maybe get a good starter here and there in the portal, and maintain a top 15 maybe top 10 roster. But if you want to be “elite” nowadays, you generally have to recruit top 5 classes to be in contention “every” year, where the majority of your roster comes from (average recruiting class of 25 and attrition/transfer class of 15), or do a better job than everyone else at both development and retention and I just don’t see anyone being able to say that, except for possibly the teams that do it year in and year out and we are now seeing that being less of a hill you can die on as top teams start looking mortal (bama, uga, Texas, Osu - up until this playoff run).
Cruitin machine gotta go brrrrrr.
Yep, sort of giving up on Wingo’s recruitment when the narrative became he was going to MO due to getting NIL early proved foolish. The reality was TX did not and did what was required like OHSt has done repeatedly at WR. How great would our WR outlook be for 2025 with him?I thought about Wingo but he’s in line to be Arch’s top target, which gives him a real shot at being the top WR in the draft when he enters.
Then again… Heupel has proven that he can produce a Biletnekof (spelling?) award winner if given the talent.
About the size of Jalen Hurd. Big boy to play RB. Has to really lower those pads. That's one big running back.
