We have been missing a guard like this. This is what you get when you mix Ramar Smith with JuJuan Smith.

Have we shown any interest up to this point?

This is what I would imagine Melvin Goins probably looked like coming out of high school. NOT INTERESTED.

So you don't think coaching and stability makes a difference?

Mevlin Goins wasn't great but he also played for 3 different schools and I'm guessing community college/Ball State don't offer the best coaches.

Playing 4 years in the same system with a good coach might have made Goins a better play. Whose to say?

Finally Hickey's name comes up! This kid is a gamer plain and simple. The Eastern team Christian County beat is absolutely loaded, and Hickey dominated. WKU is hot on him, but they let off early in the process when they thought their class was full and he took offense to that. So they have some ground to make up. I believe this kid would commit pretty quickly if given an offer.

What? Dude has handle and appears to pass reasonably, but is nowhere near the athlete that Goins is.

Agreed. Also, the competition he was playing against in that video was less than impressive.

It is hard to tell from the way the video was cut, but the 2nd region, outside of Christian Co, was as weak as I have ever seen it this year. He put up very impressive numbers in the state tournament, and I am sure that between Shelby Valley, Eastern, and Lex Cath, he played against some good people.

I have not seen him play in person. From what little film and the reports I have heard, I tend to think of him as somewhat comparable to UHA product Josh Mack Player Bio: Joshua Mack - Coastal Carolina Official Athletic Site

ESPN has a good article about the players on the final 4 teams, and how they were rated coming out of high school. Here are the starters:

Butler: one 4-star, three 3-stars, and one 2-star
UConn: two 5-stars, two 4-stars, and one 3-star
Kentucky: three 5-stars, one 4-star, and one 3-star
VCU: one 4-star, three 3-stars, and one 2-star

Here's the link: Star power: How they ranked as recruits - College Basketball - Rivals.com

Coaches that really have an eye for talent, and know how to develop it, can win without all the stars like what Kentucky and UConn recruit.

Who knows, maybe this kid could be a good/great player for us.

Thanks for that. That appears to be a spot on comparison. And, it's definitely a good sign that he played well against some quality competition. In the video, it appeared that he was so much better than his competition that he really didn't have to work hard to score.

You can't coach size and that is what Tennessee desperately needs. Nothing against Hickey, but the scholarships need to be going to post players.

We need shooters so they don't crowd the paint all game long.. Name one team that wins without one. But another big we also need.

If you lose Jones then you need a PG too. McBee and Golden, both playing out of position ain't gonna get it done.

We don't need size at pg. We need size at 4 and 5. A decent pg would have really helped this past year.
