Watching some replays, I think the pressure narrative is spot on. UT actually brought extra rushers a fair amount, but they just didn’t get home. Beck is one of those QBs that struggles against pressure but thrives against the blitz—as long as he has time.

OM wrecked us by getting pressure with 4 guys, which left a lot of defenders available in coverage and forced UGA to leave more guys in protection. That math was reversed on Saturday, with UT needing to bring an extra guy to get pressure, leaving potential receivers more open.

It’s a game of inches.
I tell her this all the time…..the last part.

They scored 14 unanswered and then we took the lead back. It was tied at half. That’s competitive. And in the second half it isn’t like we went 3 and out 5 times. We drove the ball and then stalled out due to drops or penalties.
They outscored us 17-7 in the second if I’m not mistaken. Though it went to half tied, the feeling of the first quarter was gone. Kirby had adjusted, and we did nothing. We all knew what was coming. Stats and score can say one thing, but at no point in the second half did I feel we were coming out of there with a W. We had to play a perfect game and get some breaks. After the first, none of that went our way.

I gotta say that I’m not surprised but I’m impressed with the overall reaction of this board. Not surprised bc I’ve been a member here for a few years. This is the main reason I remain a member here, you guys have some very football savvy members here that I enjoy reading posts from.

Beck played well. Our guys played hard but still don’t have the mental make-up of championship team. We are still fragile - although not as fragile as we were in 2022. However, we are just as undisciplined as 2022, maybe worse. Two years after dropping that huge game at UGA, we’re still getting terrible penalties at the worst times. AND our “elite” defense chose the biggest stage to take two or three steps backward. It fits the narrative for this program.

Only the players and coaches can fix it. Building a winning culture is hard, especially after a series of loser coaches who established a tradition of mediocrity,

I want to see all the SEC teams in the playoffs play well and protect the SEC logo. We're being disrespected. I hope our SEC teams don't lay down in the playoffs! I hope Tennessee is a playoff team. I'll hang up and listen,

I agree with you on the home field advantage. Heupel needs to put to bed the fact that he has a problem with night games on the road in the SEC. People bring up OU but that is not a competitive team at the SEC level this year. Heupel is still growing and is doing a great job at equalizing the talent for our program but play calling and strategy are areas for improvement.
Play calling is fine

Yeah I normally root against our rivals when they play OOC teams but the Big Ten Broskis on the internet have been particularly grating this year. They need to be reminded of the order of things.

Anyone can clearly see the improvement. Nico is only getting better and the team has shown they want to compete in this new age of CFB. Y’all are in a good spot, and with basically free agency now it might not take much longer. It’s almost like recruiting sets up your base and you can use the portal to fine tune a roster. In this era, you might not be as far behind as you think.

But this season isn’t over yet. Make the playoff and who knows? You guys beat Bama and played a good game vs GA under terrible circumstances.

I think Georgia had a great gameplan on both sides of the ball. They probably worked tirelessly day and night putting these together because it was an elimination game and a must win game. The crowd was hype and they survived our 10 point lead and just never looked back. Scheming TEs on our LBs and having extra guys in protection for Beck to blitzing players and keeping Nico unbalanced. There was some calls that were head scratchers, but overall even if we got half of those we still were gonna lose. Hopefully we get some other teams to lose and get 4 to 5 SEC teams in the playoffs.

DirtyDawg, let us not forget that a legitimate case can and has been made that this was a playoff elimination for Georgia, so we got your "A" game. It remains to be seen how the last two weeks of the regular season and conference championship games play out, but I would not have wanted to be in your shoes, hoping for a playoff berth, with a 9-3 record. Personally, I would have no problem with six SEC teams in a national championship playoff, if those 6 teams were truly and defensibly among the top 12 in the nation. With playoff slots awarded to conference champions, regardless of record or rank, and sometimes capricious selections of at-large teams, the process almost never seems to select the 12 "best" teams in the country.

Now the question to you, as a somewhat impartial observer, is how much do you think Heupel has closed the gap with Georgia and other top-tier SEC teams?

This game went much better for us (GA) than it could have. We were on the better side of the bounce and the calls in this one most of the time, and that combined with playing at Sanford made it very tough for the Vols. Two things that made great impact on this game were the home field advantage and in-game adjustments.

The home field advantage was especially important the way this game played out. Beck’s play really made an impact in this one. Those few tough scrambles he made were huge for intensity, and the players and the crowd responded greatly bc no one expected to see that fire in Beck.

This was a very competitive game though. I’d very much like to see us play again on a neutral field. There are many more aspect of this game to discuss, so I started this thread to broadly give an opinion and to create a place for you guys to discuss with, ridicule, or ask questions about this game to a rival.
It’s crazy that’d I’d have a more constructive conversation talking to a Georgia fan than half of the idiots on this site

Is a decent guy on our boards and always gives credit where credit is due.
We couldn't overcome what Smart and Bobo were throwing at us and Beck played a heck of a game. Yes the missed and biased ref calls didn't help but Georgia would have probably won anyway because they were playing to definitely get into the playoffs and we were timid to adjust and playing not to lose.

The phantom face mask call, the qb false start that led to a big game and the bogus, highly subjective and irregular 12th man call changed the entire complexion of the game. It would have been a good game had the refs not had such an impact on the outcome.

The officiating sucked, but great teams overcome bad officiating - like Georgia did against Texas earlier this year. Congrats on the big win.
Great teams don’t overcome bad officiating in Athens against Georgia. Probably still was going to be a loss but I would’ve liked to see what happened in an unbiased game.

I can 100% tell you Heupel felt the refs had an impact on the game.

I believe we are equal teams and if it were in Neyland we would have won. As circumstances were, if you take out the bad officiating, I think it would have come down to the final possession. I also think Georgia would have pulled out the win because they found something in the passing game we couldn't stop

Well perhaps not as loud as Neyland. You guys have approximately 10,000 more fans and part of Sanford is open so I assume it lets some sound escape. It’s still loud enough to have a major impact, so I’d say all things considered it’s a pretty tough atmosphere for a visiting team.
I'd say that is an understatement. No losses at home since when, 2019?
